I want to upgrade from a pop up to a class c type camper. The place where I rent the pop up has a 1990 Gulf Stream Conquest 24': it has 62667 Miles and a Chevrolet V8 Automatic. Can anyone give me any information about this year and model? Good or Bad? Things I should look out for? Asking is $ 7500.

:D

First of all welcome to the forum! :) :) :) As for the conquest at that age you just go by condition and if everything works, And the big thing is are you are comfortable with the price if so go for it and enjoy!!! :D :D :D

Be sure and check the date code on the tires. If they are 7 years old or older, they should be replaced regardless of how good the tread looks.

Thanks for responding...A friend was worried about the transmission. Any suggestions? I am just concern with buying it and then have alot of known problems pop up.

If the dealership would give you the previous owners Name and contact information, you could always talk to them about the RV. Hopefully they would be truthful with you about it's condition and known problems that they might be aware of.

But in reality, any coach of that vintage could be in good condition or......
depending on how the previous owners were on Preventative maintenance. One of the first indicators is the exterior and interior condition of the coach. Check the condition of the chassis and all the rubber hoses, belts and brake lines. Look for cracks and rott in the rubber.

One option is to take the unit to a mechanic and have it inspected.

Definately check the generator, if equipped, to make sure it starts, runs smooth and provides 110v for the air conditioner and all ac appliances.

Have the dealer plug the unit in a day before you arrive and have them turn on the refrig to make sure it cools as it should.

There is no doubt that you might have something that might need repaired. It is best if you can find it and have the dealer repair it before you buy it.

Keep us updated on what your decision is.
Good luck, Ron

Ditto on checking it out. I personally have always made the coaches I sell, when I am trading up, nice "for the next guy" it seems.

I don't start that way but I am a bit of a perfectionist at times, possibly AR...

Check it out or have it checked out...thoroughly from top to bottom and stem to stern. My last gas coach (just sold...make that "gave" away) has copper water line for the main fuel line...from the factory! I fixed all of the niggling items and made a lot better. It just depends on who has owned it in the past.

We had a 1990 24ft Gulf Stream Conquest. Had it until 2000.
Bought a 2000 24ft Ultra. Would have been happy to trade the 2000
back for the 1990. The 1990 was great, very few minor problems. Only kept the 2000 3 years. Couldn't wait to get rid of it.The main thing you should do is take it to a private dealer and have it checked. If the dealer won't let you have it checked I would just walk away and keep looking.
