What is going on with Flying J
They have removed the 1 cent per gallon discount that we used to get
and replaced it with a program that effectively gives us no discount at all.

The discount now is based on previous months purchases inside the store to give from 3 to 30 cents per gallon on the first 100 gallons of gas.

Most of us snowbirds do not travel every month so what has happened to me is that since I was parked in Arizona last month, I am receiving absolutely no discount on over a thousand dollars of gas to get back home to Ohio.

What type of discount programs are the rest of you folks using?
I am going to have to stop using Flying J and find another place to fuel.

Well, a penny a gallon by todays prices is hardly enough to get upset about. I have usually found Flying J to be the lowest price around anyway, plus they are RV friendly.

I use a credit card that gives me up to 5% discount on fuel based on other non-fuel purchases. It beats a sharp stick in th eye.;)

I have almost quit using Flying J already for two reasons. 1) They stopped taking Visa, which was my fuel cash back credit card, at the truck islands and, 2) I have twin 70 gallon saddle tanks and the RV island has smaller volume filler hoses. We almost exclusively use Pilot but their frequent fueler program is virtually worthless because of the reasons you mentioned.
The cash back credit cards seem to be the best way to go especially at todays diesel prices. The cash back rewards mount up pretty quickly filling 100-140 gallons per stop.

I heard last week that Flying J was going to start taking Visa again.

I have been using my Visa at Flying J so that is no longer a problem

What types of cash back credit cards have you been using?

The Visa Credit cards are not excepted at the trucker's pumps but are okay to use at the RV and car pumps at the Flying J.

The American Express Business card give 5% cash back on fuel, up to 75 gallons. I do not know how Amex figures out how many gallons of fuel you bought. Since the pumps shut off after $75 (most stations have a fill limit for some reason), this prevents going above the Amex limit.
Sure adds up fast, so any cash back is welcome.

I received the following response from Flying J concerning my concerns.
True or not, I don't know yet. Ask me after the next trip we take.

Art,

Flying J understands that our RVers are not on the road every month, and
that is why we allow them to use their discounts the next month they are
traveling. For example, If you made non-fuel purchases this month, and
then didn't travel again until August, your discounts would still be there
waiting for you. I hope this clarifies the program for you. If you have
more questions please let me know.

Thanks,
