110v Outlet in Drivers Area

I would like to install an 110 volt outlet in the drivers/dash area of our coach. Has anyone done this and where did you tap into the 110 volt circuit to do it?

Gulf Stream says there is no 110 volt line in this area, BUT there has to be for the TV overhead.

I thought about going to the first storage compartment on the right side where there is 110 volt outlet and installing a box for the wiring tap and running the line underneath to the dash area, but if anyone knows of a 110v line already in this area that would be better.

Ron, You do infact have 120 volt ac line over the dash and you could tap into this and run id down the corner post and under the dash. You will want to check to be sure that you can have it live with the key on if you need it while underway. The corner molding at the ceiling and wall is a cover for a wiring chase as well. I knew there was 110v line above to feed the TV, I was hoping that this feed line was ran under the dash up the corner post to the TV and that I would be able to install a junction box below the dash.

But what you are saying is that the 110v TV line is ran at the top under the corner molding from the back. Is this correct?

Ron, Yes Gulf Stream runs their electric line up from one point and then down the corner to the front. You could run a line down the corner post or from under the coach and up the outside of the firewall and in as well. Just be sure to protect it from chaffing or physical damage and on a current protection device rated for the gage wire you run. A 12 gage can be protected by 20 amp and 14 by 15 amp overcurrent protection.

Thanks for the help. I believe I will run the line under the coach from the first compartment on the right side where I will install a junction box. I will enclose the wire in the corrugated wire loom for protection and run it through the firewall.

It will only be used to power our laptop while on the road and for the wife to use for a lamp while parked. I will wait until we get to Florida after Jan 6th in the warm weather before doing this.

BTW, I hoped you enjoyed your time the Gulf Stream factory and found it enlightening.

Ron, It sounds like a good plan. We did enjoy touring the Gulf Stream plant and meeting many of the people I work with on a daily basis. It was good to see the methods used in the construction of my coach. I now plan to keep ours for quite some time and just to some doifications to the engine HP & torgue and maybe a couple slideouts in the bedroom. To provide 110 for our lap top. We use a small inverter plugged into one of the 12V outlets in the dash. It works great and is a lot easer than running wire.

In ours in overhead compartment on pass. side is our antenna booster
with a 12vdc socket. Thats where I plug in our 110vac converter.
It also has an extra 110vac recepticle plus 110vac switched for overhead TV
All from factory. Steve
