All my taillights are out. Brake lights still work with brake pedal pressed. What should I check? How to remove round rear taillights to check wiring and bulb? Do I simply pull it out, or do I have to access from behind where it is all styrofoamed up? Where is the front end of the taillight wire? Where/what would you check?

With warm regards, James

A similar problem happened to me on my 2002 Sun Voyager. But, I had tail lights and no brake lights. It turned out to be a corroded fuse. I actually had voltage to the lights, but it was insufficient for illumination. The fuses were located in a fuse panel in the engine compartment.

Just had this on my 08 Tour Master. All rear running lights out! (Except breaks) Would not pass inspection.

It was a corroded multi connector that is located on the passenger side rear. It is a connector that connects the coach lights wiring to the rear of the coach. It has 8 wires going into it and coming out of it.

When it was disconnected, the inside was totally corroded out!!! we ended up splicing all the wires directly together vs using a connector as the connector was really only to ad in the assembly process. So we used water proof heat shrink connection, one per wire connection.

Again, look for this connection at the full rear passenger side. More or less get on the ground at the last compartment door and look up, you will see the connector.

Man I wish this site had uploading of images turned on.

Good to read. (Well, sort of. LOL) But the good news if any, if it is hardwired you will not have any more issues. The connectors were used as it would be very hard to wire it all the way though from front to back.

During the build process they seem to sit for some time before being connected and by then, they have been wet and what have you. Thus once hooked up, well, it only takes some time before it corrodes out.

Glad you will be set.

Got my rig back last night. Taillights worked again. It looks like they simply replaced the connector and wrapped tons of tape around it. Oh well, at least I know where the problem is, if the taillights go out again:-)

On the subject of taillights, I noticed that all the upper round ones are foamed in on the back. How do you change the bulbs on them? Do you simply pull them out from the outside? The rubber gaskets seem pretty tight and am concerned that the wires might be foamed in too, preventing pull-out of light.

These are more or less the same lights used on semi's. The entire unit is replaced, red lens and all. More or less it come all out at the black ring and you disconnect the unit from the wiring and replace the unit.

I carry a few with me just in case. Can be picked up at any truck stop for the most part or RV parts place.

In the tech section of the Freightliner Chassis Owner's Club, was a post on your issue, ie; loss of tail lights. Now that your lights are working, all seems well. But, in case they go out again.....
