I have a 1997 Sun Voyager (Ford Chasis). I have replaced all the disc pads, calipers, replaced the brake fluid and brake hoses. The brakes work "ok" but the pedal still goes to floor without the ABS kicking in or the tires skidding. Has anyone ever had a spongy brake pedal? Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like you have air in the brake lines. Air will compress when the brakes are applied, liquid such as brake fluid will not.

Also, check all the hoses that are in the system, such as the ones going to your front brakes. Sometimes they will rupture internally and allow the hose to bulge but will not leak when the brakes are applied.

If you are not losing any brake fluid, then I would bet on air still in the lines.

I agree with Gstream40. It looks like you didn't bleed your brakes. Do what he suggest and it should cure your problem.

They have been bled twice and I installed all new brake lines. I will try bleeding them one more time. Any thoughts on a master cylinder problem? Maybe I should replace it now anyway?

Thank you for your comments, I am beating my head on the pavement on this one.

Years ago I had "low pedal" on a car that I had. You'd press it hard and it would slowly keep going down to the floor. That turned out to be a master cylinder problem -- fluid was leaking past the piston. YMMV.
