Anyone ever use the engine block heater on the SuperNova? It is going to be in the single digits here in North Texas the next two nights for the first time in 22 years so I plugged mine in tonight. I told my wife that at 62 years old, I am still a virgin when it comes to block heaters. I have never used them on anything I have ever owned.

So, I trimmed an extension cord down so it would fit in the little slot over the drivers steps and plugged it in to the house power. Is that all there is to it and will it really do any good to use the power to warm up the block?

I feel so stupid for not knowing about something that seems so simple.

Here in Colorado I use a block heater on my pick-up all the time. Whenever I plan on using the RV, I plug in that heater the night before. I have started the SuperNova at 10 below with no problem, with the block heater plugged in. You have done all you need to do, plug it in and forget it. I normally takes about 5 hours to warm things up, so I leave it plugged in all night. The heater won't give you real warm air through the heater vents right away, but it sure helps. A winter additive to the fuel is also a good idea if you are going to travel in real cold weather.

Thanks geo,

We just never get this cold down here. I did not know if there was a thermostat of some sorts or if I could just plug it in and leave it alone.

I did change to the winter version of the Power Service fuel additive on my last fill-up. Maybe no gelling of diesel since I made the change.

Thanks again.

I use it every time we go skiing and have started it at 5 below before. You can plug the cord into the plug in by your outside stereo if you are not hooked up and then run your generator.
If you start your engine in really cold, which I have had to do, it will not want to start and when it finally does it blows all kinds of black soot and smoke out. Do not have anything important outside or another car door open or you will be trying to clean diesel soot off of everything, good luck.
I also run Monster additive, but I run it all year long.
