I noticed today that the bolts that hold the fuel tank cover on the passenger side sheared from the fiberglass mold. I checked the driver side and found one bolts sheared, but a gap of about 3/4" between the the steel support anchor on both sides and the mold fiberglass step. Any one else have this problem? I think my fix will be to remove the steel step plate, install a rubber bushings where the gap is between the step and support bracket, then drill a 4"x5/16" bolt with washers and a nylon nut all the way through the fiberglass step to the support bracket. I hate to loose that sucker driving down the road.

I really like the looks of those fancy fiberglass tank covers that most of you have. My Nova, being one of the originals, came with those black, steel, diamond plate steps. I have chosen to keep these steps rather than changing to the covers because they are dang near bulletproof. They attach well and actually provide some protection to the tanks. Good luck with your repairs.
