There has been some interest about the intervals of changing the oil in our motorhome engines so I thought I would start a new topic.

I know that each manufacturer of the engines in our coaches list a mile figure, BUT do they also list a time frame also?

I change the oil in my CAT diesel every 11k miles OR 12 months since at this time there is no way we would drive our coach 11k miles in a year, I always change it every 12 months.

What do you do and what does your manual state?

I have a gas V10 Ford, and I change the oil every 3,000 miles or 1 year. I don't know what my manual says on reccommended time or interval, as I have never looked. I usually find the factory limits are beyond my limits. My manual calls for a high quality oil but it prefers synthetic. I use Mobil1 5w/20 or 0w/20 (if I can find it) at the recommendation of a Ford service manager.

I am probably overdoing it on oil changes, but as hard as these engines work, and the heat they create, I figure better safe than sorry....

I change mine in the spring and again in the fall. This gives me fresh oil for the summer and fresh oil for winter as it sits a lot in winter!
It is probably over kill but never had any problems with past MH 2 prior to this one had 104000 miles when I sold it the person that bought it changed the valve covers said it was spotless in side the motor. So I guess the maintance paid off.

I change the oil once a year. I have the 3126-E Caterpillar with the shallow pan. Holds 19 quarts of oil. I buy the filter at Napa and the oil (Katella) I buy it at Wal-Mart.

I plan to change the oil in early spring. I got the motorhome new last January and only have 4000 miles on it. I think once a year will do for me. I like the fall and spring idea but it cost to much to change a deisel to do it that often when it will sit most of the winter. Happy Camping.
