We have a 2008 TourMaster 40A and had a generator failure on May 31. Failure ocurred while gen running in our driveway with 2 roof a/c units on. Over the last two weeks while camping at Holland State Park in Holland, MI I took TM in to Holland Motorhomes (authorized PowerTech repair facility) for diagnosis. After several hours it was determined the problem was iternal which would require removal of gen from TM. Went back last week to have gen removed. Technician was hopeful that it would be a brush problem. Received a call this afternoon from Service Mgr at Holland Motorhomes, based on various tests and consultation with PowerTech it has been determined that rotor is shorted to ground. This means replacement of rotor/stator assembly, voltage regulator and two circuit breakers. Estimated tab is going to be around $2500. Of course the warranty ran out April 24!

My question to you all is--Has anyone else experienced such a PowerTech failure or do you know of anyone that has? By the way gen has 255.7 hours.

Thanks for any input you may have
John

Hi...

Have the same gen set but have not had such an issue. Boy, I would think that only being 1 month out of warranty they would be looking to help. Because of that, you may want to check on the price of a new gen vs repair and look to a differnt brand. But that's me.

UPDATE!! Repair completed by Holland Motorhomes in late October--final tab $2900 and change. Started working with PowerTech immediately on some financial help (reimbursement) for this major failure. Recall that generator was 35 days out of warranty and had 255.7 hours on it. After several e-mails and phone calls PowerTech agreed in early December to reimburse us $1400 for the repair. Check arrived in Mid-January just before we headed to the sunny south. I believe the reimbursement was fair and commend PowerTech for standing behind their product, even though it was out of warranty.

Nice followup! Nice to read. I really wish GS would have installed these in a way that we could more easily service them. You really need to drop it out of the coach to do anything with it. And that is not an easy thing to do from what I can see.

Better would have been if Gulf Stream would have stayed with Onan. I have the Onan 7500 and have never had a problem with it.
