Has anyone installed a digital thermostat in their trailer? The stock one is terrible.

If you have, and you recommend one please let me know.

Thanks

I see there is no response yet but I also would like to know has anyone changed thermostats and if you have what did you change to?

I just did this modification, but I used a 2 stage thermostat instead of the Hunter. It automatically changes the A/C fan speed based on the temp difference. It also switches from heat to cool by itself so that'll be nice for areas where the temp fluctuates a lot. I used a White Rodgers 1F83-277 I found on eBay for about $15. It uses AA batteries like the Hunter but I may install a transformer to eliminate those soon.

Has anybody used this method just for the heater? The thermostat in my camper only controls the heater. The thermostat for the AC is built into the AC. I saw were someone wired their AC unit across the ceiling and down the wall to make it work, but I was wondering if I could just hook up the heater for now.

I'm pretty sure you could wire up just the heater - I could have in my setup with a Suburban heater. The heater thermostat wires are separate from the air conditioner on mine anyway. Just check out your heater brand and follow the instructions pertaining to it and you should be good to go.

I replaced the Coleman-Mach analog with a Coleman-Mach digital and it was a 5 minute job. I am very pleased with the result.

I am picking up a white-Rogers 1F78-151 battery powered Tstat should work just fine as I only have the furnace to operate . The AC is separate. I will post a pick when done . Easy Mod though and under $30 from my supplier.

I decided to try connecting the 12v power to mine to see what happened and it works fine. Getting rid of that old thermostat was one of the best mods I've made so far.

Now I'm considering another change. Since the W/R 1F78-151 is a two stage thermostat I'm thinking of connecting the first stage to a relay that powers a dedicated 110v socket for a portable heater. As the camper cools the electric heater kicks on and the temp is accurately controlled by the wall thermostat. If the temp continues to cool the second stage heat, the propane furnace, kicks in. I've consulted an electrician and he says if I use a relay that can handle the amperage it should work fine. Right now this is in the "thinking" stage but I'll probably try it before long. However the outcome I'll post the results.
