Generator cuts out in the rain

Only in the rain does the generator cut out. I have tried duplicating the problem in the driveway by spraying water underneath the motorhome while the generator is running, but it just kept purring along. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PS why did they put the generator on the awing/passenger side anyway, who wants to listen to that when hanging out.... :shock:
