King Size Bed

I want to buy bedding for our coach prior to its arrival. My understanding is that it is a king-sized bed. Is that a normal king size, that is, can I buy king size sheets, etc and they'll fit? In our current MH, the queen bedding fit fine for our queen mattress. But I've read that some of the mattress sizes in RVs aren't the same as the regular sizes.

I am far removed from being an expert, especially in the "softer-side" of things.

Our '05 Sun Voyager bed spread is supposed to be 60 x 74. It is provided by Decorator Industries Inc, Abbotsford, WI (800.678.5423). There also seems to be a 60 x 80 size used on a few coaches (very few).

You might want to call Decorator & see if they can help you. Their website was not particularly helpful:

Bed dimensions per Bed, Bath & Beyond are:
Twin 39 x 76 inches
Twin X-Long 39 x 80 inches
Full 54 x 75 inches
Queen 60 x 80 inches
King 78 x 80 inches
Cal-King 72 x 84 inches

I'm thinking that these numbers suggest that the norm for Gulf Stream beds is queen size, perhaps short queen (60 x 74) or standard queen (60 x 80), but queen width.

I have yet to see a King size bed standard in a production model coach. Most are short queen I think with a few being a bit longer (standard queen?).

Thank you both for your responses. Bob, thanks also for taking the time to look up the Bed Bath and Beyond measurements--I never thought of doing that! Gulfstream didn't have anything on the website that I could find--I guess I could email them as well as Decorator--but I'll try Decorator first.

I looked in the Gulf Stream site under the Sunvoyager "features" and this is what was listed for the 8389 floorplan that you are getting:

"78X80 king bed w/deluxe innerspring mattress & power lift(8389) "

So you see it is actually a full size King in your coach according to what is listed.

I thought it was because of what they said at the Back Home Rally, but I wanted it verified.

I apologize for missing the king bed option. Is this new for '07? I rechecked & my source does not reference a king bed. It is very likely not up-to-date.

But, everyone who wanted to match interior decor with pillows, bedspreads, etc, remember the Decorator Industries company as your go-to source!

The full size King bed came out in the Tour Master last year and was installed in the new Sunvoyager 8389 floorplan that came out in May I believe. The unique part about it is the head part of the mattress has a power lift that you can sit up to watch TV/read or whatever. The mattress has a "joint" that allows this. Really neat!

Hey, thanks a bunch, Ron! I don't know how I missed it in my search, but I did! Rick will be VERY glad to hear about the size of the bed. He's only 5'10"or so, but even so, our queen in the Damon is not near long enough for him!

Now that you've mentioned it, I recently had the opportunity to take the GS factory tour (actually 2 days in a row - I've got an insatiable appetite for information!). I saw the new unit with the HUGE curbside slide & the rear bathroom. I think it had the monster bed with the powered lift.

The bed looks huge in the coach. We have been on four factory tours and each time we see something new that we missed before.

Did you get to see the state of the art down draft paint shop operated by Mike's Custom Painting or the cabinet shop or the lamination shop where all the sidewalls are laminated?
They are all really interesting. I always like to walk away from the group and talk to the workers, get some interesting answer that way.

Even though Mike's Custom Painting did extensive work on my coach, we never got over to the paint shop (wish we did) nor the cabinet shop. In fact, all I saw BOTH times was building 58(?) assembly. I shouldn't say "all" because I'd need another several tours to spot everything.

One tour guide was "Chuck". He seemed most interested in chassis' at the early stage, especially FRED. The 2nd guide was "Jake" who took us right to the internal components (I assumed that was his specialty). I got little opportunity to mingle with the workers as we were herded right along, though with ample opportunity to question everything. The factory had gone home before the 2nd tour started.

I recommend that every owner take an opportunity to tour the factory if you can. It will give you a whole new insight & respect into how your coach is designed & built. ...and the complimentary ice cream sunday at the end is a real treat.

WOW, thats alot of bed in a motorhome!

The best way to get a tour of the factory is with the Gulf Streamers when the Back Home Rally is held. We get to see more of the plant than the regular tours do.

Also, we get steak and shrimp after the tour served at the Country Club, get to play games, golf and then have entertainment. :)

I got to shower at the country club. I got the cleaning lady to open up the day center in the evening. ...and, I learned that if you need security in the evening, drive around the "corporate house" a couple times - the white security trucks come out of the woodwork to see what's going on.

And, oh yeah, I got to meet Ashley, the receptionist, after spending so many hours in the lobby.

My wife likes the coffee machine in the day center and putting together puzzles there. Yep, I imagine being around the corporate offices in the evening hours would bring out the security. :lol:

Another way is to accidently turn in the driveway and go all the way back to the country club with your coach the first time you go there. :oops:
Yep, been there done that. :lol: Good way to get an escort to the RV sites to make sure one doesn't get lost again. :)
