Thanks for sharing the stats.

That's pretty impressive gas mileage for the Highlander.

Do you tow in top gear? What kind of speeds to you drive and how often is the tranny downshifting to pull a grade?

Also what options etc does the Highlander have? I assume it's an automatic V6?

I gave up trying to tow our 19ERD with our Toyota Van. While it would pull it and the ride wasn't bad, the van seemed to really labor and down shifted a lot even though we towed in 4th gear. I was thinking that the Highlander and Sienna shared engines and transmissions although our van is 2WD.

Thanks,
Ron

CaptRon,
60 mph is what I was shooting for. I had the transmission in auto at all times. The engine did rev over 3K hitting some grades, but I kept a steady pace and it would level out below 3K. I tried cruise control, but the Highlander has a radical cruise control that overreact to maintain the set point. I did notice that I got better gas mileage with the radials. The Highlander is the limited model with AWD V6. Factory tow package installed. I install the brake controller and hitch (Toyota). The Highlander is rated to tow 5K. We did not experience any overheating or any issues. I ensured 50 psi cold in the trailer tires and checked them for accuracy in the morning when both the trailer and vehicle were loaded to get underway. On the Highlander- 30 psi front cold and 36 rear cold. These numbers were in accordance to the manufacturer.

Last weight during this trip at the Cat Scales (trailer loaded for the trip) All tanks (sewage, grey, potable, and hot water tanks empty. Both LP tanks full:
Tongue wt- 580 lbs, Trailer axle- 3140 lbs This combination was 110 Lbs under GVWR (3830 LBS). The weight at the axle was 380 lbs under the load C rating of the tires (1760 lbs at 50 psi cold) 2 x 1760= 3520.

Hopefully, this wil be of some assistance to you.
