Buying a 2004 SunVoyager 8378 gas

We are a day away from finalizing the paperwork. Was just wondering what we might expect; the good and the bad. Is the SunVoyager top or bottom of the lineup in quality, maintenance issues and value maintenance? This is our 4th Class A, just not sure of GS?

I believe Sun Voyager is the top of the gasoline motorhomes from Gulf Stream. But would be down towards the bottom on the diesels. They used to manufacture also a diesel Sun Voyager. I belong to a Gulf Stream coach club and I do not here many complaints on the Voyager. Not saying you will get the perfect coach because nobody does, but it is right up there with any other gasoline motorhome. The chassis are all the same on gasoline motorhomes. It is either a F-53 Ford Chassis or a Workhorse which would have a General Motor engine. Not sure about the transmissions though.

If you and your wife like the floor plan, that is the most important thing on gasoline coaches. Check everything on it to see if they work properly. Slides, levelers. Check to see if it has air lifts on the rear and even on the front. On the rear they really help to lift the rear end up when fully loaded giving more stability. Check the tires to see if the stamped date on them is not more then five years. Tires on motorhomes are usually changed every five to six years before they start cracking or checking on the side walls.

I have to say I absolutely love my 2004 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager. I have owned it since 2004 but it was considered a used Unit at the time because they make them 2003 and some of the model units are leased and then sold in the new year. I purchased my unit with 16,000 miles on it and as of today I have 67,000 on it.

My unit has Heavy Duty Allison transmission, Workhorse, 8.1 Vortex Engine, is a 37.5 footer with 2 Slide Outs... The only reason I am selling mine is because my husband passed away. Otherwise I would keep my unit if I could drive & maintain on my own.

If this is your first RV there are many things to learn, that I was clueless about until my husbands passing. Overall though these units are self teaching and easy to use. I have my switches for leveling inside so very easy to level. Every though it levels to the ground I still have wood planks in my storage cabinets because I noticed different areas camping the ground is softer. I hate when levels sink into the ground, so I place planks underneath the levels before I drop them down.

This particular unit has had a lot of recalls. Make sure have them completed, my husband was a engine builder so we did maintenance ourselves but now being on my own I would make sure you double check recalls are completing. The biggest headache in recalls are the calipers. Even though we changed ours several times. They still heat up and stick. I called the recall center and they said since we never brought it in, I am still covered for the free caliper recall repair.


There's also recalls on main front Samsung original TV, the original Microwave & some of the unit the refrigerators were recalled. Another major recall which a lot a people forget about was the main hardness wiring in the steering column. So Please make sure when buying to check recall list...


Happy RV as these unit are just fabulous... Oh also Love my one piece roof system as they are so easy to maintain, you can do caulking & rubberizing yourself. I did my own for first time & it was easier than I thought, except for getting over being 12 1/2 feet off the ground.

Just read this, I,m the second owner of a 2004, Gulfstream Sunvoyager, 8368, 8.1 Chevy vortex.
Have done just over 20 m in just over a year. I get so many compliments about how nice the RV looks. Has been great so far.

Is the floor flat where the drivers and passengers seats are?

Yes, we have the rather soft flat panel that raises about 3-4 inches above the living room floor. You have to kind of climb in and out. I like it myself. Reminds me of the planes I used to fly. This is the best shot I have of the drivers seat.

We are from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Traveling around for 5 years on a B1 B2 visa.
Are you guys on the road full time?
We are camped at Grand Lake, just south of the west entry into Rocky Mountain National Park.

No we are not full time. Both retired. Plan to do some serious "walk about" as soon as I sell my boat. Can't go far until then so I can do demo cruises. We live very close to Washington DC. When the wind is right you can smell the BS. If you all are planning to head East keep in touch and maybe we can meet up somewhere. I have only visited places close to the East Coast since I began camping in 2002.
