Well here we go again. Seems like every time I'm on here it's to ask for help.

Since this past winter I've had to replace a blown tranny line. Then a hole in the exhaust that was melting everything in the side compartments, including my converter/inverter. Then three weeks ago I had to replace the other tranny line (didn't replace it when I did the other because I went by the theory "If it ain't broke...don't fix it!").

Now, I went to move the rig to the other side of the driveway, which normally takes about 4 swings. Into the first swing I hear a pop and the steering wheel all but locks up on me. It took me about 20 swings to get it moved over 10 feet with no power steering.

Fluid all over the driveway.

I'll have to get under there on Sunday and have a look, but can anyone tell me where the power steering pump is located? From the position of the leak, I think it's near the front. And if I had to guess, I'd say it was a hose like the tranny lines. Am I right or is that just wishful thinking on my part (since I can have those lines made and change myself).

on my 2005 Freightliner/ Cummins with side radiator, the pump is above the starter bolted to the engine/flywheel.

Thanks Towboy, but mine is a 330 Cat with rear radiator. Looked under the engine and did no see anything that looked broken or had fluid on it. Still trying to locate.

If your on a Freightliner Chassis open a free account with accessfreightliner.com with your last 6 on the vin and you can find any info there.

John,

I called the Freightliner help number yesterday and they gave me some good direction and advice. Hopefully I will find the problem today.

Thanks

Mike

P.S. What part of Jersey Shore? I spent most of my summers at my grandparents cottage in Seaside Heights.

Finished the fix today.

It was the hose that runs from the power steering pump on the engine to the steering gear at the front of the coach. Cut ends off damaged line and left the old hose in place. O.E.M. hose is 405 inches and about $300.00 from dealer. Impossible to run in original position. Ran where I could (as advised by Freightliner rep). Needed 480 inches. Had hose made at local hose shop for about $200.00. Took about 3 hours to install and secure line. Fill reservoir is in engine compartment. Plastic bottle labeled "use Dextron III" It also has MAX & MIN markings on left side to monitor level. Took about 5 1/2 quarts to refill.
