TOW/HAUL Mode

Noob here. 2007 Gulfstream Trio 6.8 gas. What is the use/purpose/advantages/disadvantages of this Tow/Haul mode on the gear shift lever? :?:

I had this on my chevy pick-up truck. The only thing this does is changes the auto transmission gear shift location. Basically it shifts gears at higher revs. That is all!

I agree with Chkysbaks post. All it does is shifts to a lower gear so that the engine will rev up higher.
