Remove or modify bunks

Has anyone ever removed the bunks or modified the bunk area to provide extra storage? Would like to hear your stories.

Depending on the complexity of the fronts of the bunks, you might be able to construct frames and cabinet doors for them. If you ever expected to use them again for bunks (grandkids?) you could consider making them removable.
