Has anyone ever changed out the washers (are there any?) in the outside shower unit.

Changed out the head with a new one from GS. Even turned off, the pressure still builds up and when the handle is depressed it sprays, even with the faucets snugged down. Checked out if the faucets could be worked on, and they seem to be closed units. Any ideas was to how I proceed? Thanks.
