I've had two ST tires fail. Both failed due to the piece of metal that was still stuck in the tread. In one of those cases I also lost one of the tires on my TV (it's not just vacation, it's an adventure!)
I've never had an ST tire fail for any other reason. I run mine at 3/4 their rated weight capacity, never more than 60 mph. Something many people don't know: Many cheap (and OEM) ST tires are rated for a maximum of 65 mph. Many who do know might drive 75 on a trip because they're in a hurry, and notice no ill effect ... but the tire fails several months later from cumulative damage that started when they drove it over the rated limit.
Just a couple things to consider.
