A diesel will run as long as it has air and fuel. Shutting one down requires that you starve it of one or both. Most will have some type of kill switch that stops the fuel flow or stops the air. A fuel flow switch is most likely what you need to look for. It could be the electric supply line to the switch, the switch, or a badly adjusted cable. That switch should be located near the fuel pump at a location between the line in and the pump. Most diesel engines have a location where you can manually activate that switch if it is not working properly.
