Default Needing Tires Already

The OEM Chinese Maypops on our 19ERD are just about run out. Maybe one more trip of under 500miles and the drivers side inside edge will be about down to zero tread depth.

I'm considering replacing them with this tire: Kumho Radial 857 in 205/14 which is the largest size they come in. They have a max load rating of 2271lbs which is higher than the stock tires or any of the other brands. Has anyone used this tire? Any experience with them?

They aren't cheap but the only alternative seems to be replacing the tires and rims with something in the 15 inch sizes. Has anyone made that change?

Tire choices seem very limited in the stock size or even one size up.

From their reputation and specifications, they would be my choice, although i have not used them yet.

My OEM tires were junk as well and began separating on the sidewall. I started looking for replacement tires and found everyone seems to love Maxxis tires. I ordered a set for my camper and have put about 15,000 miles on them with no problems. I didn't see the Kumho tires or might have considered them, but I'm happy with mine now.

Ok; I bit the bullet and went for the Kumho 857 Radials ... I couldn't get them locally so I ordered them from Tire Rack online and paid the local Goodyear store to do the install. $126 each plus shipping =$281.30 plus install $31.90, put them over my $300 plan but so it goes. They showed up at the Goodyear store in two days from Tire Rack. Hopefully I won't have to revisit this issue for a long time.

The Trailmaster Chinese Maypops were down to almost bald on the inside edge of the drivers side tire so I couldn't risk another trip on them. (I have about 1500 miles on them total since we bought the camper, new, last year). I suspect the axle is little off in the camber department and since the OEM tires are rated for 1750 lbs at max inflation it just magnifies the wear issue since the axle is rated at 3500lbs. My CAT scale readings show I'm well short of overloading the axle. Short of going through a major hassle with Gulfstream and/or the axle manufacturer, I'm hoping that the new tires (rated at 2272 each) will handle the camber issue and still yield a reasonable life ... I'll measure carefully as I go along with my trusty digital caliper just to be sure there's no premature wear going on.

I'll probably be disappointed though given the threads on the axle problems under the Gulfstreams but I'll give it a shot.

Maxis radials are the most highly rated by RV'ists.
