Default Water heater

I have 2006 cavaler the water heater lights but it only gets luke warm. You have a split second of hot water then nothing but luke warm. What do I need to look for. It seams to go thru the cycle lights stays on for a long time. But when it goes out nothing but luke warm water comes out.

Check you water heater by-pass valve(s) to make sure that you have your valves in the correct position for hot water use.

I would access the back of the water heater and look for the valves there. There should be 3 valves, 1 in the inlet line, 1 in the outlet line and 1 in the bypass line. In normal mode, the valves in the inlet and outlet lines will be open and the valve in the bypass line will be closed.

TIP: Check the OUTSIDE SHOWER VALVES, if the water is turned OFF at the hand-held, but faucets are ON, the Hot/ Cold can MIX
