Default getting water heater to run on gas??

I'm attempting to get the water heater to run on gas. As soon as I toggle the water heater switch on the control panel it says pilot out. It was set up & running on AC when I brought it home. Is there a gas line shut off, or a switch that must be on that I'm missing. I have the AC switch off & the small rocker switch in the water heater compartment on. My other motor home attemps to light three times before the pilot out switch comes on. Like I mentioned before this one says pilot out as soon as you rock the switch. I'm getting ready to head down the road in the AM so any help would be wonderful.. Oh & YES the gas is turned on at the tank. The stove burners & furnice bothe work fine. Thanks Perry

I found my problem. It was an operator error. The small rocker switch in the water heater comp. must be in the off position. It's working great!!!

Don't understand that. Mine will run on both gas and electric at the same time.

Mine is like Nemo, if I want both on, it will work with both, but I hardly ever use the propane unless I am not hookup to shore power. We do very little dry camping. But if I am all I have to do is press the pilot switch inside the coach and once the pilot lights up the red light goes off. If I am hooked up to shore power I just use electric power to heat up the water.

You learn something new every time...I never knew you could run gas and electric on the water heater at the same time.

I too am usually on shore power and normally use the electric to heat the water. However, when I need to recover quickly, I turn off the electric and switch on the gas. The gas heats quicker and much hotter than the electric.

Like I said, I didn't know you could run both, but then again, why would you?

If I want a very quick recovery, like when the wife and I shower right after each other, I turn both electric and gas on. We never run out of hot water that way and we usually take long showers.
With both heating the water it keeps everyone sat isfied.
