Default 2011 Amerilite 16BH shakedown tour report

Just completed an 8 day shakedown trip in our New Amerilite.

Let me start by saying I have owned Class A/C rv’s for over 25 years. WE Full Timed in a 36’ class A for over 7 years. After getting out of the motor home mode, we bought a 2005 Fun Finder T139FK, which was traded in on the new TT. So I know what I like and dislike about “campers”.

As in all new TT’s, there were some minor problems with the new TT. Nothing major, just same old PITA’s….

The Amerilite 16BH is a pretty good little trailer. It has a real bathroom as compared to the wet bath in the FF. It also has a real closet to hang clothes in. The holding tanks are large (36/36/30), and the unit has a great carrying capacity for a trailer of this size (over 900 lbs). The dry weight is 2340 lbs, tongue weight @ 220. I am 6 feet tall and I can stand up inside without hitting lights and stuff.

We are using the lower bunk as a spare bed, and have removed the upper mattress and use cloth covered storage bins for “stuff”. The “window” style A/C works just fine, but I doubt it will be good in our 100+ degree days. The good thing about it is it only draws about 5 amps, so we wont need a generator that I can’t pick up.

The camper is just the right size for us, and handles easy behind our 2010 Ford Explorer. Pulled about 400 miles on this trip with no issues.

There are a few things I don’t like. There is an exhaust fan in the bath, but not one in the vent at the kitchen. This is on order with 2 vent covers and will be fixed soon. The holding tanks have level monitors but there is no monitoring station installed for the tanks/battery. When I find out where the wires are at, this will be changed. (Any info would be appreciated).

All in all, It looks good and will serve us well. At less than $10K, I would urge anyone looking for a small trailer to give it a look.

On my 2011, the TV cable was not properly crimped. The Ac drained into the wall and I've had the fridge back to the dealer three times. Everything on it has been replaced except the fridge box. The first instance the insulation was draped over the vent pipe. The mechanic said that the trailer must have been assembled on a Friday afternoon. We had four trips - none with a working fridge. Hoping next year will be better.
