Electrical Co-Pilot's chair wiring mess
Folks:
I need the electrical schematic of the co-pilot's chair. Our dealer installed the six-way chair w/foot rest about 6 months after we took delivery of our coach. A vigorous vacuuming under the chair pulled some wires out of their wire nuts.
2 lines come in from the floor. Red & White. Red is hot, white is common.
Chair has 5 lines.
Red & 2 solid black that are much larger gauge than the rest of the wires. It appears that these were wired to the hot red from the coach. 4 wires into one wire nut.
2 smaller gauge black (one has a white stripe). It appears that these were wired to the White common.
Before I perform the unthinkable, and permanently weld my eyebrows together, I wonder if there is a schematic or other information that may help correctly wire this mess back together.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Rick

Rick,
STEP 1: You've presented me with quite a challenge. I'm guessing the solution is not too hard,,, but it would be nice to not have to guess, eh?
The first thing I need to know is if your copilot chair is a Flexsteel, or Scope Seating. You may as well record the seat information that is supposedly "tucked under the cushion"?
I think the think the required information is the model of the seat base where all the motors & switches reside, but you'll have to tell us. (Have you checked for a wiring diagram or connection list somewhere under the seat?)
RV.net comments indicate that Flexsteel customer service is great to work with, though I couldn't find a phone number, yet.

Flexsteel
Hi Bob:
Flexsteel. No diagram under the chair unless it is located under the seat plate. Hope not to have to unbolt the seat to fix this.
Thanks for helping, much appreciated.

Hey Rick,
Step II:
Supposedly, Lisa Bauer, customer service rep,
Flexsteel Industries, Dubuque, IA
563-585-8356
is the go-to person for help. Again, be prepared with any part numbers/model numbers you can find in or around the chair. I'm betting she will be willing & able to provide the wiring information you need.
I struck out finding a diagram online or via any of my sources. Good luck with Lisa

Bob:
Thank you. You've been a tremendous help.
I'll call Flexsteel on Monday. I sent them an e-mail through their customer service site.

Sigh, since GS installs the chair during production, you would think they would have the schematic to wire it back into place.
But, at least GS answered my inquiry quickly.
Safe Travels,
Rick
Good morning Rick,
This is what was supplied to me from engineering this morning.
You need to contact the vendor for the co-pilot chair to identify the
wiring. The only wires we supply to the chair are the 12v hot and ground and
they have already identified those wires.

Hi Bob.
Note from GS is above. Lisa from Flexsteel also called me, and is trying to get engineering to supply me with a schematic.
This is gratifying, quick responses from both companies. Nice to see, and hear quality customer service.
Took the chair loose from the floor. No tags, anywhere. Have part numbers on the several motors and metal parts.
Nothing under the chair plate either. So, will have to hope Lisa comes through so I can get this thing wired. I only have another 2 weeks here before we move on. My wife would not be impressed to sit airplane style, bolt upright without any footrest.
Also, with the electric chairs, when electricity is lacking, there is no way to move the footrest, tilt the seat, position the seat, or otherwise get a look or hand under the seat.
Thanks again.
Safe travels

Carefully I suggest that you order the wife that seatbacks must be in an upright position & tray tables stowed before the transmission can be engaged....
I was really amazed that I could not find any power seat wiring schematics online. Hopefully, once you get them from flexsteel (& I'm sure you will), you will be able to share them by email attachment or however. My Flexsteel power wire harnes is hanging down in a rat's nest of wires... that could easily get snagged & dislodged as did your's.

And the final answer is
I received a reply today, Monday, and wired the chair back again.
GS came through for me. Kudos to their customer service, and electrical engineer manager.
Hi Rick,
This should help you out a little more. Thank you.

The 2 large gauge black and 1 small gauge black w/white stripe go to ground.
The red and small gauge black go to 12v positive.

I am impressed, and much more than merely pleased.
Kristi Coverstone goes right to the electrical engineer to get the answer, and he provides it. Nice. I'm guessing that Kenneth Worden was Terry S's replacement when he retired.
These are the kind of positive responses that will place GulfStream at the head of the pack.
