Default leveling jacks

do any of you use the hydrolic leveling jacks to raise the m/h and do work underneath,like oil changes, change tires , adjust brakes inspections, etc.[/list]

I would consider using the jacks to raise the coach, but would NOT consider getting underneath unless I had some way to be SURE it would not come back down - some sort of jack stand or ????

When I bought our current MH I was very happy to have leveling jacks and it had not occurred to me that they could be used for any other purpose. After having leveled the coach in a couple of campsites were the ground was particularly uneven and ending up with one or two wheels off the ground, I have also considered it a possible tool. But I would not take a wheel off without a jack-stand as a backup. Also I would be reluctant to use the jacks to get one corner off the ground if it meant twisting the coach body excessively.

the reason that i ask is we havent used this m/h at all yet because we picked it up in nov. last year. but this easter weekend my daughter and her husband came for the weekend and i set the m/h up for them. leveled the unit with the lacks and it stayed like that ontill today.didnt move at all. it could have easely been up on a hydrolic tire changing jack. thats what got me thinkin about useing it as a tool for service. and was woudering if anyone else did that.

Default Jacks as tool

It can be used as a lift with the knowledge that a hydraulic line or valve could fail at any time and cause the unit to fall. That is why any mechanic will jack up a vehicle and support it on jack stands of some type. And I do mean support it. Take it up , place your supports under it and then lower it on to the supports until the full weight is on the supports. I even go so far as to shake the vehicle to make sure it is steady before I allow any one to crawl under it. I do not lower the jack and remove it until I am sure the vehicle is stable. This way if a support lets go while I am shaking it it will be caught by the jack(s) before hitting the groung and damaging any thing.

I have used the Bigfoot system to perform various repairs & routine service / inspection on my unit many times but I do these things;

Start on a fairly level, solid, & safe location.

Allow the sytem to level itself then manually raise a bit higher slowly and equally to prevent warping the unit.

Placing blocking under the frame before placing my body there!

Why noy use built-in tools as long as you work safe?

Default 1999 Gulf Stream - Sun Voyager - M8362 SVB -

Hi Frank, I noticed that you have the same type motor home. Was wondering if you have all the booklets and information. I missing a few items and would like to know what they are. For instance fuel tank capacity, fresh water, black and grey water capacity. If you could post this information it would be appreciated.
Thank You

Maybe start a new thread for help on your jacks. Information such as does the panel power up? Is your park brake set and the indicator light on the control indicate same? Does the pump motor run at all? Etc. . . .
