Default 2010 SuperNova, air- brakes, suspension, seat!

I routinely check the Martinsburg RV website (http://www.martinsburgrv.com/model/). They are the largest (so they claim) exclusive Gulf Stream dealer in the country. Today I noticed they are taking orders for the 2010 SuperNova with air ride and air brakes. See their posting below:

"New RVs and Travel Trailers
SUPER NOVA
NOW TAKING ORDERS!

Stock #: GS1154
Year: 2010
Length: 40'
Manufacturer: GULFSTREAM
RV Type: RVs
Model: SUPER NOVA
NOW TAKING ORDERS!

Now taking orders for the all new 2010 Gulfstream Super Nova's with air ride, air brakes, air driver side seat, and all the new upgrades. "

After adding air ride to my SuperNova, I suggested to a GS VP that they should consider going in that direction. I am glad to see them changing the chassis suspension package. The owners of the new models should be real happy with the improvements.

What chassis does the Super Nova use? Is it a Freightliner chassis. Is it the same chassis that is used by the FRED Crescendo?

4200 International with some version of a 300hp International diesel engine.

I bought my SuperNova from Martinsburg RV.....good folks. I dealt with Tim Gallagher there on two motorhome purchases now, and he was great. Low key dealership that wants to make you happy.

Default Supernova air suspension

I also called my dealer to ask about this. He called the plant and they said it was true. He had no print or media but is heading to the plant at the end of this month. I asked about the engine and he said it was still the vt365 but I would think it would be some version of the maxxforce. He had heard it was going to be about 30hp more. I've searched all over international's site but can't figure what chassis it might be. I expect some version of the durastar. I currently have a 5500 kodiak ultra and dislike the ride. I tested a 2009 sn6400 and it was better, but then I drove a diesel pusher and loved the ride. If I could get a 6400 with air suspension and brakes plus a little more torque. That would be the unit. The dealer stated that this was more about beefing up the towing to 20k to compete with the renegade types out there. And of course the price is going up a good chunk. Let me know if anyone hears anything.

Welcome to the club. There are several of us SuperNova owners that are former owners of Kodiak chassis' coaches. The International chassis is night and day in comparison. They drive so much better in adverse road and wind conditions. The only drawback has been the stiff suspension in the rear of the coach. GS adding the air suspension will make this coach a perfect replacement. I made mine a 100% better by adding air ride to the rear of the coach. As for the new chassis, it will be a 4200 if it has a V8 diesel. If they go with the DT466, it will be on a 4300 chassis. That would be the perfect setup in my humble opinion. I do not know what they are doing to go from 10000 to 20000 pound towing capacity. I do not, again, in my humble opinion, think any V8 diesel will have enough power to pull the coach weight and another 20000 pounds of cargo especially with the 6400 coach. It will be interesting to see what the finished product is going to be. Martinsburg RV has been my only glimpse into this new platform and their information is a bit sketchy.

Good luck with your decision and keep us posted if you decide to go with the new version of this great product.

TC- I think I posted earlier that when I was visiting GS at Nappaneee there were folks from Hino visiting that day, and they showed me a photo of their planned entry into the C+ field. Perhaps the next generation may be based on that chassis-

I am also a former Chevy DuraMax owner, (Jayco Seneca) and I second the comments on the rideworthyness of the GS frame. Next time we're in Texas, which looks like August, we plan to visit SouthWestern Intnl and have the chassis upgrades, now that my pal TC has debugged the set up!

I was talking this morning with a fellow who was extolling the virtues of his Hydro-Hot system. Anybody out there have that installed and care to comment? This fellow said it was the best.

I just found the "new" floor plans and specs for the 2010 SuperNova by going through the Gulf Stream website rather than the Conquest site and I am now more excited about the new SuperNova that I was before.

Not only do you get the air suspension, seats, 18000# towing capacity and a really cool 360 degree camera system, I found that they are going with the more powerful DT466 engine with 300hp and 660 pounds of torque which, if read the International specs correctly, upgrades the unit from a 4200 to a 4300 chassis. This, friends, is a BIG deal. It now puts the power of the Freightliner chassis on the International and truly makes this a great product. They also upgraded the transmission to an Allison 3000 from the 2500 that we now have.

They show three floor plans, 6331, 6341 with bunk beds, and of course, the 6400.

For those of you who bought or want to buy this rig for towing a large trailer, this will be the unit to have.

I am truly envious of all the changes they have made. The DT466 is a real workhorse for International and should have been the engine for this product all along.

Well, TC, looks like we did a good and proper job of debugging the units for them!

I think its also a testament to a unit that GS is proud to put out on the road also. You and I both know the effort that has gone into the units- They certainly didn't give up on it.

Still going to do the upgrades along the way-

BTW, we're headed out to Memphis tomorrow for an emergency trip to St Judes for our adopted granddaughter- I'll email you on it.

Travel safe!

Where did you find the specs on towing etc. The brochure didn't mention the air brakes etc.
Thanks,

This is the brochure that is on line. Check out page 9 of 12 for towing, air suspension and other chassis/engine information.

Thanks TC.
That may be the one that keeps me from going to the A class.
I still can't find on the gs website how to get to the brochures. Do they have info on all the new ones? What are they showing for the other super C chassis? Do they still make the TourMaster? Now that we have a buyer for our 6341, we need to start shopping.
Thanks
KK

Below is the link to the brochures. The link in the last posting is the actual brochure for the SuperNova. It looks like they are going with Ford and some Sterling, other than the International chassis, for most of their C class coaches. They still have all the class A coaches listed on the link below:

Have you contacted Martinsburg RV yet? It is confusing on their website because it says "in stock" and also "now taking orders".

Default air ride

Glad to hear someone has converted a supernova to air ride. I would love to do this. Any chance you could recommend who to take the rv to for the modification, or which system you purchased for the conversion.

Thanks
