Default Gas Leak or Low Battery?

We just bought a 2009 Gulf Breeze. We haven't even used the camper but realized the gas alarm was going off. One of the tanks was left on outside. We turned it off but are unsure if there is an actual leak or low battery. I'm assuming leak because after it aired out a bit, the alarm went off but the battery is low - possibly from the alarm? If an actual leak could it be a pilot light that wasn't lit? We've had it 2 months parked in our back yard and this just happened. What are all the things I should check? Pilot light, stove burners, hot water heater? How do you even check the hot water heater? For the burners I was told to put soapy water and see if it bubbles. What have I gotten myself into? So many questions. Never owned an RV before in my life.
