Default Visa Folks: Does the stereo system play DVDs?

Hi All,

We've never really watched TV while camping, but I figure I'd better pick up a small flatscreen to have on hand when we take delivery of the new camper since it has cable and an antenna (want to test it out before we get too far form the dealer). And since it would be something dedicated to the camper I figure we should have the ability to play DVDs, so I was thinking of getting a combo set, but if the stereo already plays DVDs than I'll just go TV.

Thanks in advance!
Kristin

It does play DVDs, however, the way my trailer is configured, the entertainement center is in the kitchen and I have a spot for the tv there, but if I want to play the tv in the bedroom, there are no connexion to plug into the entertainement center, only the antenna. When is the big day?

OK, cool, thanks Toaobigal! I'll have to think about where we'd want to mount a TV in relation to where the stereo is at.

And June 17th is our big day! Can't wait! Just got back from our last hurrah with the Aliner and got her all emptied and cleaned up for her new family...so it is starting to feel pretty official!

Cheers,
Kristin

I checked your floorplan, you have more of an open area than me, from the couch you should be able to see the tv. Was your Aliner one of those PUP shaped like a triangle?

Alain.

I just realized that I assumed you bought the 23 RBK with the slide, I didn't know they were making the 23 BHD. Disregard what I said about the couch and tv, I will be a different set-up. Still a nice trailer though.

I would wait until you get your Visa and measure the TV opening in the cabinet.
I was able to fit a 22" flat screen in mine.

Thanks guys! Now I'm torn...I'd love to wait until we take delivery to think about where a TV would go and whether or not we'd want one with built-in DVD. That would make tons of sense. But, since we ended up with a dealer 6 hours away from home, I want to ensure that everything is in working order that weekend while we're camping nearby. I wish we already had a little TV to just bring along to test out...

And, yes, Toaobigal - the Aliner is the triangle-shaped hardside pop-up. We keep a blog in case you're interested in poking around: http://www.alineradventures.blogspot.com Great little camper, but with a growing boy who wants to bring friends along we are just finding that we're outgrowing it.

...Not only does it play DVDs, it is very flexible with music sources.

You can put your MP3s on a USB flash drive, and plug it into the USB port. You can plug an MP3 player into the USB port, and the stereo can read the files directly off the MP3 player without it even being turned on. I haven't tried putting MP3s onto an SD Card yet, but its supposed to do that too.

We don't watch much TV while camping, but we like to have our tunes...

Cool, thanks for the info on the audio!

We usually listen to nature's sounds when we camp, but good to know for rainy days...and like I said, I really want to be sure that we test everything out when we take delivery before we get too far away from the dealer.

Of course if we have the means, I'm sure my husband and son will want to take advantage of the A/V capabilities

Not sure if anyone out there is still following this trail, but we are about to buy a Visa 17RWD. The little touch screen stereo unit is mounted in the upper kitchen cabinet. I understand I can plug my iPod into it, but where the heck do I put the iPod? Also not sure where a TV would go in this unit. I'm wondering, since we probably will only watch DVDs, if we should just take a laptop and watch DVDs that way. Any advice on what that little black touchscreen box is good for (besides MP3's) would be greatly appreciated! And if it does have something to do with a TV, how do you connect it to your TV?

The entertainment unit in your Visa plays CDs and DVDs. Most Visa's have a RCA jack faceplate somewhere near the suggested TV mounting area. It will have 3 jacks. You need to buy a cable set and connect the jacks to an input on the TV to be able to watch DVDs. If you mount the TV in a location away from the area where the wall plate with jacks is, you can route another cable from the Entertainment Center to the area where the TV is located. We were able to do this on our 23RBK so that we can watch DVDs on the TV, which is mounted in the bedroom area.

I highly recommend buying a TV/DVD combo, for ease of use. We have 2 JVC 22" combos and love them. (Don't go bigger than 22" FYI, 19" would be fine)

Second, we put our phones in the cabinet or on top of when playing from the devices.

We have an interesting story regarding the Radio / CD / DVD unit. We have a 2011 23RBK. It came with a "Touch Screen" unit manufactured by "Touch Audio," which happens to be a Lippert subsidiary. The unit had terrible reception, and would not tune in any AM stations at all. The Dealer replaced it under warranty. Subsequently, during our next trip, we discovered that the DVD player would sometimes send a picture to the TV saying "DVD not formatted for this Region." After some internet research, I discovered that all DVDs have a coding for the region of the world they are sold in. DVD players sold in that Region should play DVDs sold in that Region. In our case, the DVD player sort of arbitrarily decided it would not play DVDs coded for our Region (North and South America). After convincing the Dealer of this issue, Gulfstream provided another Radio / CD / DVD unit - a newer generation of the Touch Audio radio. This unit has been trouble free. I notice that the 2013 Vista Cruisers have a different Audio unit altogether. Hopefully it knows how to play DVDs coded for the US.
