Default Mercedes Engine Coolant Leak

My 07 Tourmaster with the Mercedes engine evidently has a coolant leak. I thought I read a year or so ago about some others having the same issue. It took me almost 2 gallons of coolant to drive 700 miles in the past two days. If anyone has had the same issue, please let me know what the corrective action might have been.

Tarheel, are you telling us you do not know where the anti freeze is leaking?

I had a leak on the plastic overflow tank a few years ago. Fact it was replaced at a Freightliner shop west of Albuquerque New Mexico. The coach was still fairly new when it sprung a pin hole leak. Maybe you might have the same problem. Hope you are not talking about something more serious like a head gasket. Check your oil and if it is turning brown, then you know it is a head gasket. Check the hoses, radiator and heater hoses to see if you can spot anti freeze anywhere.
Good luck! Hope it is nothing serious.

It is the EGR cooler. Common problem. Freightliner can pressure test. May see some light smoke from tailpipe. Also can look at top of cooler near the rear and see light grey corrosion.

Also check this site you can get a better than original to replace with http://www.shopinjectors.com/diesel/mer ... r-coolers/

Don-
You were correct, it is a EGR cooler leak. Fortunate for me, it is being handled under the engine warranty which I still have left since I bought the rig new in 2009 after a dealer bankrupsy. Also Ray, thanks for your input, it enabled me to check a few things myself!

Thanks again guys!

Dick
