Default Lights & AC don't work but all 120v does

Following a thunderstorm the lights and AC stopped working. Our Gulfstream Cavalier stays on shore power (120v) and we use it as a guest cottage for now. After checking everything I could think of with a meter I realized that although connected to 120v the lights were 12v DC and likely powered by the converter. After checking it with the meter it appeared not to have any 12v output and was warm to touch and the cooling fan was not working.

I just ordered a new WF-8955MBA (55amp) replacement Power Converter for ($150 from www.americanrvcompany.com) and hope this will remedy. The only thing that puzzles me is the AC not working since it is 120v powered. I'm hopping the thermostat is 12v powered and why it is not working. Any thoughts?

The 12v battery does not feed the thermostat. Did you check all circuit breakers? Is the refrigerator working, at least that would let you know you are getting power to your trailer.

Try hooking the trailer up to a battery (or to your truck) while its hooked to shore power. Mine was doing the same thing and after I did this all electrical including ac and lights worked. After I unhooked the battery everything ran fine off shore power. Not sure why it worked but it did.

Does the battery have a charge in it? The thermostat is 12volt powered.

Replacing this cured all my problems. It appears the thermostat was 12v powered. (I also forgot to mention that the cooling fan for the unit was not working either.) The replacement seemed an identical match for the original. This source was almost $100 less than other suppliers and I had the part in less than 10 days. Thanks for the suggestions.

Good to hear all is ok. Thanks for the web sight. Checked it out and was very interesting, we are looking for a TV and TV mount.

I suggest that you try using a power surge protector, as you would use one in the house it works perfect for trailers as well.
