Default Couch

Noticed on our last trip the couch is very uncomfortable to sit on. The cushion in the middle sinks about 6 inches. The two on the end make you feel like your sitting way too high. Odd. We've moved the cushions around and it still does it. You just sink until your knees almost hit your chin. Something wrong here.
The mattress for the pull out bed leaves something to be desired. My poor niece slept on it for 4 nights. Wonder she doesn't have back problems by now from it. Has anyone replaced that?

Carol

Person sitting on couch behind driver can't see the TV. What a lousey layout.

What about sitting on it. Do you have that middle cushion "sinking" problem?

Carol,
I have a couch in my BT Cruiser that is beyone awful. It is similar to a cement bench in a park. When sitting on it, my feet dangle and I'm 5'7".

Take a look at the Simmons Space Saver Line at Jennifer Convertables. Add a Air Dream Mattress and you will have the thing licked.

Default My couch is bad also

I have a 2004 Sunvoyager and the couch in it is terrible also. One thing I notice is the cushions want to slide out from the back. I am forever pushing the cushins back in. I have never had anyone sleep on it yet but the pull out bed looks terrible also. I am sure it won't be comfortable . I had a jack knife couch in my other motor home and it seemed much better. I don't think the one I have now will last very long until we replace it with something else.

Cheryl,
That article you gave the link to is two years old. I have reason to believe that Jennifer has gotten their act together. Elliott Spitzer doesn't let things go without followup.

What I'm looking at for my BTCruiser is a Simmons Space Saver SKU Z-7555-F. ($499.00)

It is a three cushion seat with a three cushion back (loose). The seat is 20" deep. I will have to have it re-upolstered as the colors available will not match any of my interior fabric. The reason I'm looking at it very closely is the seat from the floor is 17". If you add the 2 1/2" of my slide
that is about the height of a residential sofa. The seat on mine now is 22" off the floor. The back height of this will fit under the window cornice.

I have been to two Jennifer stores in my area. Both salesman did tell me the that they have a sofa specialist that can knock down any sofa to get it in the narrow doorway.

I have sat on this sofa on several occasions. It is quite comfortable. I found no difference between this one and any other residential sofa. this line from Simmons is for the apartment dweller with limited space.

I did also spend some time in a horizontal position on the air dream mattress ($300.00) they had in the store. Boy that was comfortable. Inflates quickly and deflates just as fast. I can keep the mattress pad and sheets on the bed while it is folded up.

I have to think that this line could be in other furniture stores under another brand. Caye Upholstery can assist you with questions regarding Hide-A-Bed? products and recliners sold under the Simmons? mark. Please contact them at 662-534-4762 or 800-388-5448

If I can answer any more questions, give a shout.

We'll have to make do. Can't afford to replace the couch. Unit too new for changes like that.

Carol & Chuck,

Is your sofa a Flair interior http://www.flairinteriors.com/

or

Flexsteel http://www.flexsteel.com/ ?

It seems as though GS changed from Flexsteel furniture (#1 in my book) to Flair Interiors somewhere between model year 2004 & 2005. I think that applies to the sofa as well.

Perhaps you could research which manufacturer you have in your unit, as well as the model number if you can find one. Contact the manufacturer directly & express your disatisfaction. Maybe something is actually broke?

If that doesn't work out, contact GS to look into a swap to Flexsteel (I'm being a little presumptive - you could have a sucky Flexsteel!)

Bob,
The Label that came off my sofa says "Comfort Plus Furniture by Gulf Stream" The contact phone number is 888-443-9888

Which is the phone number for Scope Technologies http://www.scopetechnologies.com/

In MHO they should be ashamed of making such an item. When I get rid of mine, it will be put in a dumpster. I'm to embarrased to give it to charity.

Yes! that's the name I was searching for, but couldn't rememeber. We agreed to purchase our 2005 SunVoyager based on a 2004 model. The day we were to sign the papers, we happened to walk into a 2005 unit on the floor & sat in the front seats. Like sitting on that orange crate someone spoke of. TERRIBLE!

We notified the salesman that something was wrong. He answered that this is the fine new supplier that GS was using. To shorten the story, they wouldn't consider changing to the Flexsteel we thought we were buying so we walked out.

GS eventually agreed to Flexsteel furniture up front, though the rest of the furniture isn't particularly comfy. Kitchen chairs are absurd - we hate then. The fabric sofa is adequate. The recliner is quite comfortable & might be flexsteel - I'm not sure.

The scopetechnologies stuff is really terrible. I think GS is getting many complaints & perhaps change may be in the future. The departure from Flexsteel was supposedly political; perhaps Flexsteel was getting greedy. don't know the full story but recommend that anyone who goes to the factory, grill your tourguide unmercifully for answers - thou may be rewarded.

Bob,
Ya ready for a hot one....
Gulf Stream DOES NOT have factory tours of the Class C's.

Two questions immediately came to my mind....
What are they ashamed of?
What are they hiding?

To borrow a line from Sy Sims ?An Educated Consumer is Our Best Customer.? (R)

Gulf Stream does give tours of the Class C factory and many of the GulfStreamers members have been on the factory tour. I was on one last year, 2005, when at the Back Home Rally.

The Class C tour is like the Class A tour but on a smaller scale since most of the material used in the "C" come from the manufacturing Plant at where the Class A is made, cabinets/doors, laminated walls, ETC.

So you actually see more at the Class A tour than the Class C tour.

I was told that they do not have "scheduled" tours of the "C" plant do to demand. But you can get one by making the arrangements thru your dealer with Gulf Stream, it is the same for the towables plants.

Believe me, GSC has nothing to be ashamed of and they sure didn't hide anything from us when we took the tour(s) of the manufacturing plants.

I believe the other Streamers that are here on the forum can verify this.

Ron,
I am in absolute SHOCK !!

I was willing to drive to IN and wanted to do a factory tour on the BTCruiser before purchase.

In speaking with Michelle in Class C sales I was told "we never give factory tours on the class c's"

When I asked why, she stated "I don't know the reason, all I know is that we don't"

Now that I know that a tour is available, you can bet I'm going to contact someone else and try and do one. I want to see how this puppy is put together and where things are that you can't see.

Thank you soooo very much for educating me.

When I was there a short 2 months ago, they asked me which factory/product line I wanted to see. All 5 visitors wanted class A. I got the impression that another destination would have been available.

The tour was FANTASTIC. I snooped to my heart's content, had every question answered. Factory people even participated. That engineer that guided us was most knowledgable about chassis. I feel that I learned everything I wanted about their process.

I was hanging out the next day & asked if I could go again. I was welcomed. Another engineer was on deck that day. He was most knowledgable about structures. Jees, I learned everything I asked about on wall panels and that whole aspect.

Even more importantly, I learned their process and production flow. It is very structured & controlled. For the life of me, I cannot figure how some of these massive, unforgivable blunders get by them. There IS a drawing for every item & assembly - nothing is done helter-skelter as is the impression of so many of us.

I am astonished at some of the errors that (apparently) come off the line, based on what I observed. Final testing is thorough. They pressurize each unit looking for air leaks, they check for leakage current in case a wire is stapled... on and on - there is absolutely no factory reason for the types of mistakes & blunders we find at the dealer lot (after PDI unfortunately).

How does it happen? I don't know. That's why their own people are so astonished when we report a lot of our problems. Do you suppose I'm such a special customer that they put on a real show for me??? NOT!!!!

Between the lines, you can see this is a glowing report on GS. The fact that I was invited to the factory for my required repairs, & was treated very well while there... I couldn't ask for any more.

Bob,

That was a very good summary and report of your tour. Everything you stated was exactly what I found on every plant tour that we have taken since 2002 when we purchased our first Gulf Stream. We have toured the Plant 58 Class A 4 times and the Class C plant once. Both plants are a very organized process with drawings for everything as you mentioned.

I too am amazed at some of the problems that some report they have on their units because I don't know how they slip by all the organized assembly processes that take place at the GSC factories.
