Date/Time Confusion
Hello, I am a newbie to this forum. If I don't log in the individual topics shows the day of the week and then the date in mo., date, year, format. However, when I log in no day of the week is shown and the date is shown in a different format which is generally reserved for international communications. Also the time shown depends on whether I am logged in or not. Is it something I am doing/not doing or is it your system? Ken Roberts...

Hi Ken,
You ask a good question that not only can't I answer, I can't even confirm!
You'll notice that rj82much remains logged in 24 hours per day. For some reason, I can't log off. I don't know if it's because I access this site via 3 different computers, or if I broke something!
Heh heh, it doesn't bother me just so other members don't think I have no regular job, & just sit at the computer waiting for something to happen.
Ha Ha, I snicker at the vision.
I'll bet GSadmin (our highly paid owner) will pop in and tell us what the story is regarding the time/date...

Bob,
I looked and it only shows myself as the only registered member on at this time. Are you sure that you are always showing as being on? I know it always shows that I am on from my three different computers when I look at the site.

My guess is that when you are logged in, your profile settings make a change in the date time format since the format is selectable in your profile settings.
When you are not logged in, the PHP defaults apply.
This is all contigent that I understand your issue.

An interesting observation Ron,
Here, all along I thought I was always logged on, but it's not so if I'm not looking. Sort of like the age-old question about the tree falling in the woods with nobody there: does it make any sound? Another myth shot all to heck............

Ken,
I thought I'd try to impress you & everyone by understanding what's going on with the date thing you brought up - all I got was a headache for my effort.
Actually, Dave is correct. You would change your profile settings (bottom of your profile page) to display whatever format you wish. (with or without day, time, etc. Also, correct for your time zone.)
Now for the headache part, the rules are available at the link just to the left of the setup portion ( http://us2.php.net/date ). It goes on and on. According to that (long) page, I could even display sun-up time for any day??? Jees, why would I ever want that? It would be almost like the day before!
And yes, before you log in, you will see the default time/date setting. I can't see the default because I can't log out (while I'm here).
