Default Water heater acting up

The water heater is acting up, it will light then go off. The light on the range hood says, that the pilot is out. No pilot on this model. On the last trip, when breaking down to head home, opened the water heater door outside, looked at flame, looks like a weak flame. My guess, some critter has set up housekeeping in the burner tube. That is first on the list when it gets just a little warmer around here. Any other ideas on what it may be?
