Default 24 RK TV

We like the looks of amerilite 24 RK. Our question is, can that model be easily towed by the small chevy or ford V8's, and if so, what sort of gas mileage should we expect.

thanks in advance, T

The dry weight is around 4200 lbs. I would think that most modern 1/2 tons with a V8 would have no problem with that trailer. You should expect around 8-10 MPG towing any full height trailer.

Thank you for that. Aside from trailer height, does weight affect gas mileage, in other words will a 3000 lb trailer get better mileage than a 4000lb trailer?

thanks, Tom

Weight will affect mileage but the real killer is the drag of pulling that 'barn door' through the wind. If a truck is rated to tow around 7000 lbs., I don't think the difference towing a 3000 lb TT as opposed to a 4000 lb TT is going to make any difference in MPG. I get about the same mileage towing our current TT (~6000 lbs loaded) as I did towing our former hybrid TT (~4000 lbs loaded).

We normally get ~17 MPG with my 2005 Expedition on the interstate...I took a little hit when I put more aggressive tires on it. I have the 300 hp V-8 and 3.73 gears.

With our ~4,500# loaded Hybrid, we got a little more than 10 MPG.

With our ~6,500# loaded Ameri-Lite 255BH, we get ~9 MPG.

With my 20' dovetail (open) utility trailer loaded with all my tractor stuff (~6,000# loaded), I get ~12.5 MPG.

Weight does matter, especially up the hills. But most of your "hit" is going to be, as others have said, pulling the barn through the wind.
