Default Tail pipe too low-Have you moved yours?

Hi group,

Does your tail pipe exit just ahead of the rear wheels? Is it only a little over 2 inches off the ground?

The above was the way mine was mounted until this morning. The rear wheel dropped off the side of the driveway. It was only a 3 inch drop but the tail pipe was behind the rear wheel before I could stop.

I felt it was too low all along. I have had it hit the road several times going in or out of driveways when I was on the pavement. At least I was at home and not out in the middle of no where.

Have you had this problem and what did you do about it? I am thinking about having the tailpipe moved to behind the rear wheels and up some so it will not drag on every dip or peak in the road. Do you know of any reason I should not do this?

Thanks in advance,

Duncan

I perosonally see no reason why you can not relocate the tail pipe. Getting it around the axle maybe a problem for you however. Use the same diameter pipe when you extended it. You may be able to just adjust the pipe you have so that it hangs higher than it use to. If it is close to the body you may need to add a heat sheild. Good luck with your project.

Hey Duncan, I did not have problem with the tail pipe, but, the exhaust
for the Gen goes out driver side just between the last 2 compartment
doors. Yep same problem, hung too low, minor damge to bottom of doors
and thank goodness hanger broke and pipe swiveled.
Fix was to remove at muffler outlet, have 2" cut off tail pipe, and re-install
with a shorter hanger.

Good Luck, and Best Regards, Clyde

Default Tail Pipe too low

Yes I have the same situation on my 2004 Gulfstream 37 ft sunvoyager. In fact the whole motor home is too low. I was up in Ga. and had to make a turn around to correct my travel route and pulled into a parking lot to do this. After I got into the parking lot I discovered I didnot have room to do this. So I went out a back entrance and there was a hole in which the left rear wheel went in to. It drug the bottom of several compartment doors and also broke the sewer outlet. It could have been worse but I was able to repair with too much work myself. Yes this motor home is not ment to be off the road for sure.

Default Tailpipe

Duncan, Yes I had a similar problem in Kansas, was pulling into a station for fuel and dropped into a large pothole at the end of the concrete slab, remodeled the step and had to fix when we got stopped fpr the nite.

The FireStone Air Ride raised the coach about 1-1/2 inches and I have
been thinking about 22.5 wheels.

I am going to change out the Air filter assembly for an UltraPower Cold Air Box and the OEM muffler for a MagnaFlow. I'll have the tailpipe re-routed
at that time also. I am going to have the Angle (90 deg now) at the end
softened and raise all as much as possible.

It's really a shame that GSC doesn't want to hear how to improve their product!!

I have same problem, not to much you can do unless you move pipes behind rear wheels, You can have a custom exaust shop make up pipes, I did this on other MH, On this one I moved the gen. pipe as to a be able to use my up-pipe,
Good luck

Hi Clyde

I had to fix gen pipe last year so I could go to FMCA rally Croton-on-Hudson NY. Have to have up-pipe to run gen at rally, my pipe came out at back corner next to rear skirt at a upward angle water always stayed in pipe so it had to be changed anway works great . Have you ever been to that rally? I am going again this year price for weekend is $132. and that included all food except Sunday night supper.

Looking forward to talking to you.

Earl

I have a 2005 Crescendo and while doing the PDI, I commented on how low the tailpipe hung in the rear. Later I discovered that there was not even a hanger on the tailpipe it was just connected to the muffler. I added a hanger and also realized that if I were to rotate the tail pipe 45 degrees due to a bend in it from the muffler it actually raised the entire assembly by two inches.

Hey Plemons, Ditto Ron's Welcome , Seems like GSC left
a lot of "Honey-Doo's" for us.
I am going to replace the OEM muffler so I will address the tailpipe at that time. We can all learn from each other.

Best Regards, Clyde
