Default Supernova 6400 Ride

We just purchased our first rv. It is a 2008 Supernova 6400. It was repo'd from the dealership, so we got a pretty good deal. I know the ride is pretty bumpy and we would like to soften it as much as possible without breaking the bank. After reading everyone's post's on the Supernova ride, I am totally confused. We had negotiated with the dealer that we purchased the rv from to install bilstein shocks, but the dealer now says that bilstein doesn't make shocks suitable for the rv. I am absolutely clueless when I'm talking to the dealer about this, so I don't know if they are shooting me a line of bull Any information or advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Amy, I am not for sure of any bilstein shocks for the 4200 chassis, the factory shocks are just fine, but the RV dealer will have to go to an International dealer to purchase the shocks and mounts, and get the measurements for the upper mounts.
The shocks will not soften the ride, it will calm down the rocking, and damping the spring rebound.
Good Luck, Walldo

After driving my Nova for 30,000 miles with the factory setup and the last 5000 with the ACE air suspension, I truly don't know how I put up with all that jarring and rough ride prior to air installation. I drove 600 miles yesterday and 500 miles today and my wife and I are so very pleased with the ride of our Nova now that all that bumping and jarring is gone.

You might try to get the dealer to apply the funds he was going to pay for the shocks to an air system. I don't think there will be any other way to soften up the rear suspension since it consists of very heavy springs without any shocks at all when it is produced and delivered to Gulf Stream.

In fact, the dealer could install the ACE air suspension at their shop. It takes a day to install when you have the right equipment to jack up the rear of the coach. If the dealer would like to discuss the installation or any other facts about the air add-on, they can call Aaron Redmond at Southwest International in Dallas. He will be happy to explain the process to them so they can decide if they would like to tackle the project. His number is (214)689-1400.

Thanks for the information. We are supposed to pick up the coach tomorrow, so I'll run it by them.
