Default Tires

Well after inspecting my tires on my 2004 Gulfstream I notice some small cracks so think it is about time to start thinking tires. They are 235/80R 22.5 Michlin XRV. I have been reading that Sumitomo and Toyo tires are pretty good and a lot less expensive. Does anyone in the central Florida Area know a good tire dealer to talk to. I live in New Port Richey, Fl. Also what size have you used to replace these tires. Thanks for any help I get.

Just replaced mine with Goodyear G670 245 75 r22.5. Cost 540.00 per tire at the local wingfoot commercial tire center.
Not cheap but they ride like a dream.

I replaced my XRV Michelins with Toyo's. My original tires were 255X80 22.5 the new Toyo Tires are R265X75 22.5 14PR M-124Z. The ride is fantastic. I also had them balanced right away with Equal. Had the X-Air valve stems applied with filters on them.

OK the tires on my motor home are Michelin 235/80R 22.5 XRV, What Toyo tire matches up to this one. It seems to me that the only tire company that has this size is Michelin. I would not hesitate to go with Toyo or another tire if I knew the correct size. It sure seems that the other than Michelin are certainly a lot less expensive.

245 75 r22.5
Quality, not cost should be the most important factor though.

If you want quality, then go with the Toyo's. I have had both and the Michelins XRV have a bad reputation for having zipper blowouts. I got rid of mine after five years because they had all kinds of cracks on the side walls.

Just go to a place where they sell Toyo tires and they will tell you what size to put on your coach. The rim is the important factor on tire size and also the size of the well on your coach. I am sure your coach can take the same size as mine which would be 265X75 22.5
Good luck.

Well the best price I have gotten so far is on Sumitomo 718 245/75R22.5 They were just a hair over $2000. for 6. The best price on Michlin is $2520.. Is it worth $500 to have Michlin on the motor home? Decisions, Decisions. I still lean toward the Michlin because that is what come on it and I have had no problems with them but $500 is important also when things are the way they are today.
Do any of you run Sumitomo tires?

I think $500.00 is a lot of money now days. I know that when I switched from Michelins to Toyo's, I saved something like $800.00 . It was the best move I could have made. I really like the Toyo's and at the time I noticed that all the Country Coaches had them out of the factory. So I figured if they are good enough for a high end coach like Country Coach, they are good enough for me.
I think you could get Toyo tires in the 245x65 22.5 for about the same as the Sumotomo's.

I got the Toyo's through Discount Tire Stores, but I am sure there are many that sell Toyo's. Here in California Petes Tire also sells them.

I have had several dealers check on the toyos 245/75R22.5 and they said they were out of stock. That seems strange to me.

Tires after five years start getting some small cracks on the side walls called weather checking or ozone checking. If the cracks go deep, it is time to change the tires. A blow out will do a lot of damage to the wheel well and it could also cause an accident. Not worth taking a chance in my opinion. These cracks are also caused because of the lack of driving the coach. IF you use the coach often and exercise the tires, they will go a lot longer without getting the checking.

Now as to the size of tires your coach should have? I am not sure, but on my 38' coach their is a sticker right next to where the VIN number is located which tells you what size of tire your coach had out of the factory. A 42' coach usually has a tag axle for the extra weight, but I know that some Gulf Stream coaches have been built with a single axle and I do agree that the tires might be a little on the small size, but I am not sure.
