New member and Class A owner
We just wanted to say "Hi" from S. California. We are new members as of today and new owners of a 2007 36" Crescendo FRED. We've been reading the comments on this sight and find it VERY informative.
As of this e-mail, we are very excited about our GS, especially the layout, which is one of the primary reasons for choosing it. Lots of kitchen counter space and love the sitting room in the bedroom. We did replace the dinette with a table and 4 chairs which has given us much more flexibility and room.
So far, we have had little, if any problems other than a few loose screws from our longest trip down Route 66 from LA to Chicago. We now have a very good idea of which states have good roads and which do not
We have kept track of our diesel mileage for our first two trips. Without towing, we got between 10 - 11.6 MPG. With towing we got about 9 - 9.6 MPG. (we tow a Jeep Liberty). We are very pleased with the Front End Diesel. Although it is the smaller engine (300 cummins) it handles inclines and towing with ease.
Well, best get this posted before we write a book! We look forward to reading comments, helps, problems and solutions from all of you.
Gary & Lynn

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I am new myself and was so happy to read your post, because we just bought a 2007 Gulfstream Sun Voyager FRED. It's being built and we should get in in the next few weeks.
I've been searching the RV forums to find someone who owns a FRED, but they are few and far between, so I was very glad to ready you like yours! The mileage is about what we were told--12 or so, they said. I assume it will get a little better once you get some miles on it, but even so, that's not too bad.
Good luck with your new coach and please let us know how it's going and what you like/dislike about the FRED as you get to know it better.
Jill

Well....You can visit the Bombing Memorial in OKC as well as the Western Heritage Museum (formerly Cowboy Hall of Fame), the zoo and Omniplex.
Tulsa has a good Museum and there is an aquariam there as well.
Of course if you go thru N.E. Oklhoma along Rt 66 or I-44 Stop in Miami at Buffalo Run Casino. tell them I sent you........

Thanks for the tips. Once my husband retires, our goal is to see as many museums and Hall of Fames as we can. Of course, we'll also be visiting as many lighthouses as we can, as well. We've been to 138 so far. Can' think of a better way to do these things than in our Crescendo!!!

Hi from the east coast of Canada. Just purchased a new 2008 Independence FRED this week. Unfortunately will not be able to use it until spring. Hope to learn lots from this site. Drive home from Halifax went well, with a few nervous times going down hill.

Welcome to the site.
"...with a few nervous times going down hill."
Be sure to use your engine brake as much as you can.

Thanks,
I remember the dealer mentioning thast button, but he didn't think I would need it. Is it the button on my left and does it slow down the rig?

Not need it?!?!? OH MY!!! It should be the main thing you use to slow the rig down. If not, you will go through brakes quickly!
Example, you are coming up to and exit and would normally but your foot on the brake say in a car....however in the coach use the engine brake to slow yourself down and use the foot brake to get you stopped when you slow or need more stopping power. (IE, did not use the engine brake soon enough.) Once you get use to using the switch and see how it works, you will get the point of of it saves your brakes. (Not just on freeways, but any road you can come to a stop slower without braking until needed.) Doing this will also turn on your brake lights, so people do know you are braking.
More or less it uses the engine and the transmission to to slow you dropping the top most gear to be 2 so the transmission will back down in gears as it safely can thus slowing you without using the brakes.
It is also used to hold you back when going down hill.
