Default Onan Genset slide out motor won't stop

I have a 1997 Gulf Stream with a 7.5 Genset. When I depress the slide out switch, the motor extends the generator but when the slide out stops, the motor will not. It begins a chatter or a knocking sound. When I depress the slide out switch again, the motor stops. When I depress it again the motor starts and retracts the slide out. It does the same chatter when completely retracted. Again the motor will stop when the switch is depressed.
Took it to the Onan dealer and was advised that they only work on the Genset. Contacted Gulf Stream and was advised that it was probably the motor and should take it to a Gulf stream Dealer.
I am hoping that someone else has experienced this and can shed some light on this problem. Thanks

Dave & Anna, Welcome to the forum I may not be much help as i don't have your model but it seems that there should be some sort of a limit switch to stop motor in both directions I would look for some type of contact at both ends of travel of the tray. Good luck but I am shore that someone will be along with the same model that can give you more tech. advice. Again WELCOME

Earl & Jan

Thanks for the welcome and helpful suggestion. I'll try and track down these limit switches.

I would suspect there are limiting switches also. Being the they are upfront and probable open to the envorment The may just have dirty contacts. Finding and cleaning the switches may fix your problem. But then again I don't have that feature so I am unsure myself. Welcome to the forum. Happy Camping.

I'm assuming you have a Norco Electric Slide. Their manuals can be downloaded at:

http://www.norcoind.com/bal/downloads/manuals/index.htm

It seems that cables can stretch, chains can become loose, & a world of other problems. Visit the above site for their excellent
? Accu-Slide Designer's Guide
? Accu-Slide Installation Manual
? Accu-Slide Service Manual

Looking at the secret GS schematic that documents the NORCO slide, I see that there seems to be a single, double pole, double throw switch that controls the motor (and the direction of rotation). The operator on the switch is likely (as stated by earljan) pushed by some arm associated with the slide mechanism. I can't tell any more from the drawing. Open your slide will someone observes from underneath. Let us know if you find the switch. The problem is possibly an adjustment-thing.

Default Onan Genset slide out motor won't stop

Thanks so much for the links for the slide out manuals. These seem to be "room" slide outs. What I need is info on the slide out for my front mounted Onan Generator. It slides right out of the front of the coach and does it's wierd thing when it reaches mazimum out position (and max in position as well).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

David

David,

Let me try again. I see that GS uses Power Gear & Liftco for slides & slide accesories. I couldn't find any reference to gen slides in GS's literature, but lo & behold, Power Gear list a 12 volt motor/pump & manuals at:

http://www.powergearus.com/

The actual manual is:

http://www.powergearus.com/DATA/82-s0298-00.pdf

Hopefully this last link downloads & opens it for you. If not, at the top link, drill thru manual > slideout > power gear > Gen-Slide hydraulic slide out. They also have other Gulf Stream application manuals listed.

If this leads nowhere, we'll go in & see what can be found about Liftco.

I forgot to ask, is your gen slide only electric, or electric driving a hydraulic pump? Don't forget, there has to be a switch of some sort in around the mechanism. Maybe proximity switches if you can't find a mechanical switch? My coach levelers use proximity switches. Once you identify the exact model you have, the manufacturer will be able to guide you to fixing it.

Default Onan Genset slide out motor won't stop

Bob:

Thanks for your willingness to help.

I have now tracked down the source of my problem. I have an electric motor that screws the gen slide out and in. When the slide out reaches it's full extension, an increase in amp draw occurs and trips the eclectronic slide out controller stopping the motor. There is an adjusting "pot" on the controller box. Turn it to Max and the motor chatters as explained below. Turn it to Min. and the slide won't operate. There is a fine tunning point somewhere in between. I have tried to fine tune it several times and it either worked snd chatters or doesn't. The controller is made by Baker Mfg., H&H Mfg. division. It has a part number 21095. Since it is not hydraulic, is it possible that you may have access to further insructions for this type of controller. My coach is a Gulf stream and although it is 10 years old, There must be some info out there that covwers my situation.

Thanks again Bob for your offer to help.

The reply below to a previous thread may give you some insight to my delema. Also, review my original explanation of my problem. That may help to clarify the below response.

"the chatter is the clutch in the drive motor gearhead. Think of it as a cordless drill that has a clutch. As long as the motor stop after a couple of releases and catches it will be fine. The adjustment point will be a fine line. Not enough and it will not move as you have found out and too much and it causes the clutch to take effect".

David,

You aparently have the E-Z Slide-Out System, seemingly manufactured by or at:

http://www.hhbraund.com/rvparts_accessories.html

I didn't yet find the p/n you supplied, but perhaps you can rummage around for their phone number & beat me to the punch.

I have more research to do, but this might get you started. I did note that many "suppliers" carry the H&H product. In fact, if you click on this link:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=I ... gle+Search
you should see the choices.

Default Onan Genset slide out motor won't stop

Well, thanks to to all who contributed to helping me with my Generator slide out problem. and a special thanks to you Bob for heading me in the direction of the repacement part. I realised after you sent the links that I actully mis-spelled the name on the controller. It is Barker, not Baker. They, I believe are the parent company of H&H manufacturing.Anyhow, called them first thing this morning, explained my problem and was advised that the contoller was probably OK. The symproms clearly indicated that the clutch was bad in the drive motor. I ordered the motor ($130.00) and I should have it next week.

Thanks again

David
