Buying a home, how does a refrigerator allowance work? I am about to buy a home and the seller is offering a $2,000 refrigerator allowance. How does that work? When do you get the money to buy a fridge? Or does it just come off the selling price?

Every transaction is different. Some require that you go pick out exactly what you want and then they take care of getting it put in. Some give a check at closing. Some give the allowance at a specific retailer that you go to to pick something and any difference is given back to the seller per their agreement with the retailer. You just need to ask.

PS: If you were given any allowances for anything else, I would ask that the remainder of the fridge allowance be put towards the others (like if you wanted to upgrade the stove or flooring, etc). Just a thought.

When I moved in to my new house, I also bought new appliances such as refrigerator and TV. It was hard for me to choose the best appliances that would fit my budget. Luckily, I was able to sell some of my old ones and so I had enough budget to buy.
