So many to choose from. What do you all use? Leaning towards Stanadyne but would like to see what you guys have researched.

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Why do you feel the need for any additive? I have been driving diesels for years and the only additive I ever added was to keep the fuel from Geling in the sub zero temps. That was Power Serv. (I think that is the name)

Stanadyne was recommended by my mechanic and is widely available. I am sure there are differences between brands, but with this ULSD fuel, using something is very important. Here where it routinely gets very cold, I use the winter blend half of the year.

So far, I've been using PowerService brand. Benefits are inconclusive...maybe slightly better mileage.

After loosing four injectors, I have been using Power Service fuel additives. Available at Wal-Mart and auto stores across the country. The main reason for using an additive these days is the fuel. When the guvmint decided we had to use ULSD, the lubricating properties we got from the old diesel is gone forever. Fuel additives help to restore some of what we lost.

I learned the hard way. I don't want to have that happen again.

I've read both the pros and cons of using additives and I figure for another $10-$15/tankful, it is cheap insurance. If I can squeeze a few more miles per tank, clean the injectors, gain a little more power, and lube the injectors, why not?

Stanadyne is not readily available in my neck of the woods, but Wally World does carry DieselKleen and STP. With the magic of the Internet, I can get it delivered, but if DieselKleen is a good product, I would rather support my local economy.

Thanks for the input.

Oh yeah, my WalMart does carry the Power Services brand also.

I may be giving them a shot.

Thanks again!

Oops, DieselKleen is made by Power Service. My bad!

DieselKleen/Power Service products are manufactured right here in Texas. So thanks for helping my local economy by using their products. LOL

TexasTC,
Just a little payback for all the HELP you've been providing us GS owners over the past few years.

In fact, I'm heading to WalMart today to help the Texas economy and help lube my injectors.

Now to get my ACE system installed...Hopefully the system will be done in the next few weeks.

I just started using Stanadyne (I think they make the injectors). My SN has not run right for 6 months. Injectors, turbo, crap in the fuel tanks. Going to International shop again on Monday. When I open my fuel tanks, there is noticeable rust and crud inside the filler necks. All with 6500 miles! Maybe 3rd time is a charm!!!

That is not good! Keep us posted as to what they find.

Thanks,

Well it seems all my troubles are a result of algae in the fuel. I did some research and this seems to be a growing problem (pardon the pun) as a result of regulations for diesel. International wants to put a water separator on, with cleaning etc ~$1700. This is a brand new truck (6700 miles) and I asked why it didn't come with one? They said it was recommended for RV use since they tend to sit dormant for extended periods. Anyone else encountered algae issues?

Now that is a new one on me. I have not heard of this problem until now and I definitely am a candidate if it is caused by letting the coach sit between trips. Mine sits for up to two months between trips and I have not run into any algae issues yet. I do, however, make sure my tanks are full when I return from a trip for its idle period.

Keep us posted.

Regardless of the fuel, diesel or gasoline, its a good practice to have full tanks if the vehicle will be sitting for a while to preclude moisture/condensation buildup and other related issues. Even better is to add the additives discussed as a precaution. No doubt new regulations have resulting in changes in fuel compositions. Anyone out there have any knowledge/insight as to whether fuel manufacturers have made any recommendations for storing fuel for longer periods of time?

Algae..

Now another thing we have to worry about. I will now fuel up and add the additives prior to storing.

Whoah!
