My TV above the drivers seat turns off when ignition is on.
Why?

I don't know what unit you have, but most with front TVs do. Seems designers and the Feds decided that you shouldn't watch TV and drive at the same time, go figure!

Why? They are all made that way. For safety reasons and, in most states, it is law. I don't care how focused you are, if something interesting comes on the TV, you're going to look at it and be distracted.

I know here in Pennsylvania the law states that "No monitor shall be visible from the driver's seat in any vehilce." They choose to not enforce that law when it comes to GPS.

I have also found this to be true everywhere. I have seen custom rigs that bypass this and will have a tv lift above the dash. This is probably controlled by a off delay timer (http://www.acdcind.com). I have also seen them get tickets and fines for this! It is for the safety of all of us!
