Tire sensors

We're interested in installing a tire sensor system on our Tourmaster, but we are not sure what is the best system. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I bought mine online from a company called Hawkshead. I have had the system for over a year and am pleased with the application. I had to replace one sensor but that is the only issue I have had. I like this system because it has replaceable batteries rather than having to replace the entire sending unit.

We have SmarTire on our Tour Master. It sends the important info on pressure, temp, etc. The main consideration is the fact that to access the sensors the tires must be removed. We have had three cases in which the straps holding the sensors on the rim broke. Charlie

I have a pressure pro and it has worked fine.

I am now looking for a new system as the press pro really is behind the times in regards to what it looks at. For example, it does not tell you about a rapid release. (X number of #'s over X amount of time.)

I tried the Tire Traker (Note the spelling) which is also sold as the Hawkshead and I did not have too good of luck with it after two units. It just would not update and gave me false alarms.

So I have chosen to now to go with TST 507 SYSTEM. http://www.tsttruck.com/Product_List.html (NOTE lower price here... http://www.plugitright.com/TST-Tire-Pre ... ystem.html (http://www.plugitright.com/TST-Tire-Pressure-Monitoring-System.html) sold their a distributor.) It will do all the items I would like and it seems to have some of the best support and customer service around. (From my reading.) I will be ordering one of these in the next week.

So, as you can see, mileage will very for many. It all depends on your needs and if it will work in your coach. (Maybe I had too much interference or something with the Tire Traker even though I had the repeater.)

I will end with saying....It is a very good safety device that I feel people should be using no matter what the flavor.

I have the Pressure Pro and I have used it for over 6 years. I am now looking at replacing the sensors at $35.00 each. Multiply it by 10 and it will hurt. I am seriously thinking of updating to something with replaceable batteries. Maybe get a control panel and enough sensors for the toad and then add sensors as the Pressure Pro sensors die.

X2 for the TST 507. My 10 sensor system has been flawless since getting the newest version in July 2010. Won't leave home without it.

Aside from peace of mind, I can now safely use lower tire pressure by following the manufacturers recommendation for my CAT weighed coach. Instead of filling to 100 PSI 'to be safe', I now use 75 PSI rear and 86 PSI front to get a significantly smoother ride.

Remember: Pressure changes with ambient outdoor temperature. Cold days need more pressure - hot days need less. With a TPMS you can easily make changes before setting out.

That reminds of a distinct advantage with the TST 507 RV: Its sensors transmits even when the coach is standing still. With many other systems, the sensors do not transmit until you start moving. For me that is too late. I need to check pressure before we get going for the day.

Now with 1700 miles on the new 507 system, all is working OUTSTANDING. (Currently heading to Newfoundland. We cross over tomorrow night.)
