Good Morning! We plan on staying put for an extended period, probably about 1 year. Now my Question is this; During that time, how often should we
Fire Up the Main Motor, and the Diesel Generator? I have heard different Owners suggest different things; Once a month, some say once every 2 weeks.
Is there a general Rule of Thumb on this, or has anyone found a Formula that seems to work best? Thanks in Advance...................................

According to the owner's manual for my Onan generator, it should be started and run once a month at 50% load for two hours.

Thank you for that information. Does 2hrs seem like a long time to run the generator, just asking?

I don't know why two hours was chosen. Perhaps it deals with ensuring all moisture is driven from the generator internals as well as ensuring the engine runs sufficient fuel to "flush" the entire system.

Looks like I'll have to set aside some time to Run my Generator. Running it for two hours will also Burn approx 2 Gallons of Fuel, let's see, @ $4.05 per Gal, that's 8 Bucks............. :(

I usually take trips on my coach at least once a month, but I was ill recently and have not taken my coach out lately. But the big engine I would like to run it at least every three months, but on a trip. Just starting the engine and letting it idle is worse then if you don't start at all.
The generator I start it when ever I need it. But most of the time it is around every three months or so, but when I run it, it is for like a week at a time, and sometimes for 24hrs a day because of the heat. When we go to the Colorado River in the summer time boating, and jet sking we run the generator 24 hrs a day. The Onan 7500 diesel has been a great generator so far.
