I can't believe that my Canyon Trail has the kitchen sink plumbed into the 40 gallon black tank, while the shower and bathroom sink are plumbed into an 80 gallon grey tank. How do I stop the black tank from being fed back into the sink when its nearly full (the sink low point is nearly on the same plane). How do you stop the fumes from venting through the sink when driving up hill to the dump station...

I am severly disappointed with this set-up...

Is this the norm for Gulf Stream products?

I think it is pretty common to plum the shower and bathroom sink to the black water tank due to their proximity to each other. RV showers are usually, get wet, turn off the shower, soap entire body, then rinse. That way you don't use excess water or fill your tanks too quickly. It is often refered to as a Navy shower.

I share Ken White's disbelief.

From my experience regarding this issue (most of which is from the two motorhomes we have owned and comments on this and other forums), is for rigs with one each: kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower and toilet, the most common set up is...
- kitchen sink and shower go into grey tank.
- bathroom sink and toilet go into black tank.

The bathroom sink is plumbed into the black tank to insure enough liquid gets mixed in with the solid waste to allow it to flow freely when dumped.

Again, this is what a consensus of contributors considers "normal" ,or at least, what is in mine and most RVs. There have been several exceptions to this rule.

Some folks that found out their kitchen sink went into the black tank were understandably concerned about contaminants from that tank having ANY connection to where they were preparing food.
