Hi there,

We just came back from an RV Show and loved the 19RSD. The only concern we have is the towing capacity and safety due to our car. We have a jeep wrangler unlimited 3500 LBs towing capacity. I was wondering if anyone here had any problem towing with cars of capacity similar to ours. Thanks you very much for your help.

I had a 2009 Santa Fe with V6 with 3500#, and it was near limit with the Visa, and scary in the wind even with a WDH. I upsized to a 2012 Grand Cherokee with a must better feel. You will be able to tow, but depending on terran and weather, it takes all of your concentration.

I pull a 2013 Visa 17RWD with a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I have towed from Dallas to Chicago, Dallas to Galveston and Dallas to Silverton and Moab and back.

The 17RWD has a tongue weight of 230lbs, the 19RSD has a tongue weight of 400lbs, I only use a sway control, you WILL need a load equalizing hitch and sway control.

You didn't state the year of your Wrangler or the model, both of which are extremely important. If you have a 2012 or newer Unlimited with 4:10 gears you can tow the 19RSD but you will be pushing the limits. If you have a 2012 with 3:73 gears you can as long as you do NOT try to go up mountains. If you have a 2012 with 3:21 gears I would think you can NOT tow this much weight. If you have a 2011 or older the answer is a simple "NO" you can not pull that trailer with the Wrangler, the gear ration will not matter. The 3.8L does not have the power to do this, I know I owned a 2007 Wrangler with 4:10 gears before I got the 2012 Wrangler with 4:10 gears.

Thank you all for your reply. I have done so much reading in the last couple of days and concluded that in order to really feel comfortable and safe we would need to have a car with a better towing capacity (we have a wrangler 2008 for now) . So, we are looking into a Toyota 4Runner (5000 LBs tow capacity) and only after that we will start saving for the trailer. Too bad because my wife and I really wanted to start giving to our children the experience of camping and traveling this summer, but better to wait and go safe. Thanks. Jeppo

Well, we have updated out TV. We now have a Pathfinder (tow capacity of 6,000 lbs). We also found a used 2011 19RSD. Not sure about the price yet, we are going to check it out tomorrow, any idea what to expect in terms of price? What do you think will be a good deal?

Also, I am planning to buy the Cub Hensley Hitch and the TruControl Gold brake controller. Any feedback on these is very much appreciated. Anything else you think I should add? A transmission cooler?

Thanks in advance for helping me once again!
