Is this a house type refrigerator or is it the propane/electric? What brand is your refrigerator?

I would place a therometer in the refrigerator side and leave it there for at least 24 hours with the unit on to find out exactly what the true temp is.

We have always kept one in our frig, it is one that is sold by Camping World that hangs from the shelf.

Have you turned the dial up to get it to cool more. I am not familiar with the Dometic refrigerator since we have a 1200 LRIM Norcold, but ours has a dial where the higher number means colder. We set ours at 6 and it stays cold. The freezer side has nothing to do with the setting dial of the refrigerator side.

RayHarkness if you read this thread you might want to chime in on the problem you had with your refrigerator. I know you told me, but I forgot. I believe it had something to do with a seal letting hot air into the frig.

On my unit (Dometic side-by-side) there is a white plastic slide clipped onto one of the cooling fins on the back inside wall of the refrigerator (mine is clipped onto the far right fin). The slide has a wire coming out of the bottom of it.

o Put a thermometer in the fridge for 24 hours.
o Note the temperature and the position of the slide.
o Move the slide above the original position
o Check the thermometer after another 24 hours.
o Move the slide below the original position
o Check the thermometer after another 24 hours.

Moving the slide up and down fine tunes the temperature in the fridge without having to compromise the temperature of the freezer.

thanks just needed to run it longer had it on over the weekend and it worked. wasnt sure if it was going to so I put everything in the freezer side then transfered it after it got cold. checked all the door seals and found the freezer side does not seal. How do I adjust the door hinge or lock mechanism to make it seal there is nothing wrong with the seal the door is not closing all the way. could this be affecting the frige side.

Yes it will affect the fridge and you will get tons of frost building up in the freezer.

I don't know how to adjust, but check to make sure one of the door shelves is not touching something on wire shelves causing it to not close completely. That happened to me once. Over-stuffed the freezer and didn't realize it was pushing on the door. Within a couple of days, the freezer needed to be defrosted.

You should be able to close the door with just a slight push of your finger.

Ok, my freezer is at 6 deg. and my refer is at 41 deg. I think the refer should be colder than that when the freezer is at 6 deg. What fin should the thermister slide be on and in what position on the fin should the slide be to start with?

I don't think it matters on which fin the thermistor is located. It is usually on an end fin to keep the wire from getting caught on anything.

The sensor in the slide detects the temp around it. The top of the fridge is the warmest. if you move the slide up into the warmer zone, it will cause the fridge to cool more.

If the products in your fridge are freezing (like veggies in bottom drawer) you need to move the slide down a bit.

One very important point. To keep the temp in the fridge as consistent as possible from top to bottom, you MUST have a fan inside to circulate the air. These are available at Camping World and other RV supply outlets for about $15.00.
