Generator not powering outlets or charging battery

we just got a 2005 BT cruiser which we love. But the generator has stopped powering any outlets, including the microwave, and it's not charging the battery. The generator is running fine.
What can I do to find the problem and fix it? We leave in just a couple of days.

possibly the ATS (automatic transfer switch) which is under the bathroom sink in mine.
