1997 SunVoyager holding tank heaters

New to us 97 Sunvoyager 31 ft gasser. Black and grey tanks are marked as being heated. Can see the heater wires. Can not find any control switch, any suggestions? Thanks!

The wires you are seeing may be the level indicators.

When the original owners ordered my Gulfstream they wanted to drive it to Alaska.

They said the tanks are heated but there is no switch for it.

Thank you for your response! Looked again today and no luck. On my tanks in the bay where you empty them, is a decal saying both tanks are heated. SO i guess I'll keep asking and looking. Thanks again,

I did some checking; Our tanks are insolated and heated by ambient air from the furnace.

Pretty sure all modern RV tanks (bays) are heated by warm furnace air and not each tank individually by electricity, and I suspect the wires you are seeing are the level indicators.

Certainly true in my 1997 38' Sunvoyager DP.

The tanks that are heated by electricity have aftermarket pads on them. They sell kits.

The switch for the heated pads on our Independence is in the bathroom. Of all places.
It’s a small red illuminated rocker switch.

On my Ultra Supreme the water bays are heated by a duct that comes off the furnace. If you look between the tanks you might see the open end of the duct about middle of the motorhome. The black and gray tank duct comes off the main duct running under the bed. The fresh water duct comes of the main duct running under the kitchen cabinet.



Recently, like 3 weeks ago, I set up incandescent light bulbs in the 2 water bays as the temperature was below freezing at night. Those bulbs kept the bays above 40F even when down to 27F outside. At night I kept the furnace thermostat at 45F.

Mine are heated by the warm air from the furnace. The floor in the WC (little room with the toidy) gets warm. It is right next to the furnace.

My tanks are heated the same way. 1.5 inch ducts from the furnace

It warms our floor and pipes too. Most of the time I don't turn on the hot water heater and you can get some warm water to wash your hands if you are quick.

Back in the 90's, I'd say many did not come with that option standard. Gulfstream had that Alaska option (I think they called it) which the original owner of our Coach added.


I'm sure in the last 18 years it's probably a common standard feature.

I had a problem with one of the heaters. I have the option to order and install one of these (https://houseweather.org/best-electric-tankless-water-heater/). Or contact your dealer. Has anyone done the replacement by themselves? What difficulties did you have?
